I don't think I've ever gotten more than 36 or so.

that's funny. I will try the drafting behind a semi also. See if I notice a difference. Takes a lot of patience to obtain that kind of mileage I am sure. Glad to know that 60 is possible.

His vitals say United States so it would be gas. I'd like to see proof of his claimed 62 mpg. From what I've seen in nearly 8 years on here, he would have to be driving down a mountain, with a tail wind, drafting a semi. Breaking 50 mpg is a challenge for us mere mortals.

You also have an A/T my friend. For you the challenge just got 2 mpg harder.

thanks for the info. love that you have been around a lot. Yes i have a auto 5d with 40k miles on it currently. I have not tested anything as of yet but will be starting soon.
basically you are saying that 60mpg is not reality which, given your experience would have to be right.
So I am lucky to get over 50 or have you seen 55 on an auto?

Best I've done was 46 mpg and change on a 700+ mile trip. Ideal conditions, warm, no traffic, and CC on always.

Actual in the tank readings.

I make that trip several times a year, normally when warmer, 42-44, when colder 38-42.

I just averaged 51 mpg on a 300+ Hwy trip, standard with a 1.5L. As soon as I get off the highway the miles begin to drop fast! I still do ~40 average most of the time, except in winter.

I've never broken 50 for a full tank. My best for a tank = around 49, and that was mostly down a mountain (Winnemucca, NV to Mill Valley, CA).

I would like to emulate this if possible. I do 75% highway and 25% city usually and would like a 50+ avg. I would like to see higher for a tank or 2.

Yes in op I was talking about a full tank or close to a full tank at 60mpg. I was informed that it is not possible but apparently 56 is
