Help Hooking up Gauges
I'm having some wiring issues trying to hook up my 6 gauges in the cabin. Basically, I want to hook up 6 +12v wires to the MET fuse using an add a fuse (and 2 10A fuses). Problem is, every time I hook up more than one gauge, the fuse blows. Originally I thought that since I have the ground wires connected and going to the same ground that they were feeding each other. I added diodes to see if this was the case and it wasn't.

The six gauges together shouldn't be drawing anywhere near enough power to pop a fuse. I have a feeling that you are connecting something incorrectly that is causing a short. Can you snap some pics?

Problem resolved.
I really don't want to admit to the mistake I made because there isn't even a word to describe how stupid it was. Let's leave it at I was hooking up mechanical gauges as electric gauges. And btw CTScott, thanks for responding to the page |

Unfortunately, it's exactly as I said lmao.
I had + and - wires connected on the bolts on the back of mechanical gauges. Even as I was doing it I was like, "why in the world do I need +12v on these mechanical gauges!" Finally, I looked at the back of one of the gauges and realized that because the gauges are metal, I was flowing electricity right from a power source to ground. Suddenly, it became clear as to why fuses keep blowing! Whose got me trophy for this intelligible act of smart intelligence. |
