Cruise for Christmas!

After reading the entire thread on DIY cruise, I installed a $9.73 cruise on my son's 08 liftback, thanks to all of you for your perseverance and innovation. We ran the wires to the console between the seats. The two button controls are partially covered by the brake handle. A very clean install if I do say so myself.
CTScott, how can I get one of those ECM terminal pins?

oh but i should mention you'll need a variety of butt splices and extra wire ... i wish i could remember the gauges but its all around 16 to 22. depening on what wire you use to ground you might need a different gauge lug for that too.

I am from Egypt (middle east). I have seen this DIY years ago but never had the guts to do it. I am a noob when it comes to car mechanics and also afraid of electronics :D. I don't know if my car has cruise function. To summarize, I need to check if PIN 40 has 12 volts when ignition on. Wish me luck everybody. I hope that the car has the function so I can do it, my 300 kms daily route to work would be so much better. I think that toyota must have installed it in all the cars not specific to a certain segment. When I first bought the car it had no rear speakers and when I bought the speakers and during installation, I found out that all the wiring is done and all I have to do it place the speakers and that was it. Do I need to remove the steering wheel to get to the D3 connector??? :d

Unfortunately your Yaris does not support the OEM cruise control. For 06-11 Yaris, only US/Canada ones with the 1.5L engine have it built into the ECM.

It is on the bottom of the steering column. My complete DIY shows how to get to it:

It Works!

Just installed the two switch DIY cruise control on my '07 Yaris Sedan. Can't believe it works! Not that I had any doubts in the DIY instructions. I have zero experience in electronics. I just bought the parts (<$10!), installed as instructed, and I now have cruise control!

Thanks so much for this thread and instructions. I am a traveling salesman with a four state territory. The cruise will make my travels SO much easier

For your car you would need a complete aftermarket system, since your ECM does not have the functionality built in.

Since this thread is revived, I have to say, It worked on my 2007 Sedan (Canada)!! Started out with no tool, I spend ~$15 on it. Compare to, let say, OEM Cruise from dealership its almost nothing. Thanks CTScott for the awesome DIY writeup and everyone's help.

Now I need to work on making aesthetically look good.

Hi All

I tried this today on my December 2006 YR. Is there a way to tell if you've made a connection to pin40 on A21? Is there a test resistance to ground or another pin for example?

Mine also does not have the blue wire populated in the fuse box for the clutch switch either. Does this mean it's a no go? There is a pin at the bottom (just not a wire coming out of the plug), which I tried grounding, but couldn't get CC to work.

Thoughts any of you gurus? :)

For the pin 40 test, measure the voltage on the wire with the ignition switch in the on position. You should see 12 V on that pin.

The missing blue clutch switch wire is potentially a bad sign. Did you verify that there was not a connector taped to the harness, just above the clutch pedal?

Thanks Scott

Will check pin potential - didn't look for connector at the time, but I don't have one.

Cheers
