Can I wax my car before a very long trip?

Sorry for the word omitting

I'm from North Utah and I'm going to Los Angeles on Aug 2nd and Santa Monica on Aug 7th.

Do you guys recommend me wax the car one day before I set out? Because I'll meet me girlfriend and I want the car extremely shiny.

One of my friends warned me that the new wax on the car is sticky and will get more bugs and dust on highway.

Any suggestions? Thanks a lot!!

I waxed mine a couple weeks ago , and the bugs just came right off when I washed it better then before. So I would say wax away just make sure you get it all off, and dont get it on the black plastic.

your friend is using some crazy-ass wax if it makes his car sticky. the way to tell whether your car needs detailing/waxing is to run a microfiber towel along the hood (preferably when its clean). if its still slippery, you dont need a detail job yet. if its sticky or shows some resistance, its time to detail/wax. just makes ure to avoid whatever it is your friend is using. i can imagine him pouring maple syrup all over his car...now that stuff's sticky...

in my opinion waxing a car before a trip is a great idea. with a fresh coat of wax it will make washing off all the road debris and bugs so much easier.
i'd say wash/wax it before the trip then before you see your gf, swing on through a quick car wash.
i have no idea what sticky wax is and wax certainly won't make a bug stick. if a bug hits your car at 65mph, it's going to stick pretty damn good regardless.
get some goo-gone or bug & tar remover or something for that as well.

How to get the bugs off...easily....

No matter how many highway bugs you have stuck on your yaris....just spray WD40 and wait...It will not harm the paint....also

If anyone drips oil on your concrete driveway spray the oil with WD40 ...and the next day if still there...spray again...It will disappear and is simple to do....

holy necro post, but since its up:

Most new waxes have a full cure time of 12 hours or less. I believe some older ones and some still on the market might be a full 24 hours. Personally I wouldn't wax the day before, I'd go 2-3 days at least. The wax isn't "sticky" its soft - bugs splat IN to the wax, not on top.

Also, WD-40 isn't going to strip paint, but I know it rusts bearings after a month - is it really worth using?(considering its barely cheaper than meguiar's quick detailer). If you properly wax your car you don't need anything but a damp microfiber to get bugs/bird crap/tar off your car.

Make sure girlfriend also waxes.....jk....

I always put on a coat of wax and polish or glaze before a trip,it to me helps get the grim off, figure it is sticking the bugs to the wax layer instead of my paint layer,so easier to get clean.

Carnuba wax, whether newly applied or an older application will soften in the sun/
heat and potentially trap dirt.

Polymer wax does not have this problem and this is one of the reasons why many (ncluding me) prefere it.

Meguairs NXT Tech Wax 2.0.
Synthetic and lasts 4-6 months, instead of natural waxes that last half that at best.

Also, the GF would probably notice a spotlessly clean interior more than a shiny exterior (vs one that's just washed at a car wash).
