Hard brake and MMT problem

Yaris 2005 with MMT.
Today, and not for the first time, I had the MMT warning light and the flashing N but the car started at least? Switched off and tried again but the brake pedal is suddenly rock hard and the car will not start no matter how much I press the pedal.

Any ideas? Not sure the two issues are directly related but who knows? Certainly not Toyota...

Looks like this is a common problem for the Toyota Multi-Mode Transmissions (aka sequential manuals) offered in Europe in which the MMT clutch actuators fail resulting in the flashing N. There is a company in the UK that rebuilds these actuators which is cheaper then buying a new one.

Does this also explain why the brake pedal is hard? After about 15 minutes, all returns to normal and I can press, the brake and start the car and go
