Question about radiator fan
The fan for my radiator comes on, but it spins very slowly. The problem is my air-conditioner only cools the air about 20°. Does this fan have a thermostat on it,?
Isn’t this fan supposed to spin at full speed? Inquiring minds want to know!

There are 2 speeds controlled by two separate relays.
Iirc the fan should spon fast when the a/c is on

I see. Maybe it’ spins slowly when it’s not so hot Like this morning?

When I turn the AC ON, the fan starts to spin slowly (and it cannot be heard over the idling engine). But usually in a minute or two the fast spin kicks in and the fan noise overwhelms the engine noise.
Still, it takes up to 5 minutes for the AC to start blowing the cool air if the car has been parked for 24hrs. Toyota authorized service center found no problem with AC components, nor did another independent service guy. So I just assume the AC of this 12-year-old can has been designed this silly way or it is simply too old. |

if a/c high pressure more than 190psi, radiator/condenser fan will spin at fast speed

If that is the case then maybe the OP's pressure is a bit low

In my 2007. The fan is turned On by a relay and has a resistor is in series with the fan motor. Lowering the voltage to the fan motor. That give you low speed fan.
A second relay shorts out the resistor so full voltage is on the fan motor. It could be the relay that shorts out the resistor for high speed fan. |

Relays are located at fuse box in the engine compartment and the resistor is located at right behind the left head lamp which is in between the lamp and intake box.

Unfortunately problems with my medication lead me to cancel mine appointment with the mechanic.
I’m thinking I will replace relay number two Myself. Can someone give me the part number? Thanks!

One of the fan relays is not located in the under hood fuse box and I cant remember of hand where it is located but I remember is being built into a module and it is not a simple relay swap

I consulted my 2001 Toyota Echo service manual and they have a procedure to test the relays. You test circuit 1-2 for continuity. Then you put 12 V on it and test the other circuits for continuity.
Relay one is stuck and won’t come out. Relay two isa smaller and hard to get a hold of.

I got relay two out And the last five numbers of the relay are indeed 04004. Now I have to get some alligator clips so I can test the relay and see if it’s bad

A new fan two relay didn’t fix the AC.
Or make the fan run fast it only runs slow
