Kinda reminds me of a 'hot soak' issue in first-gen vibe/matrix. when the car has been driven for a while, then stopped attempting to restart in 20 or so minutes results in a prolonged crank and no start. Doing it again immediately starts it ok. Toyota issued a software 'fix', but it only made it better without eliminating the issue completely.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was about to buy another starter.
87K miles and never happened until recently. This is the same symptoms my 4Runner had when the starter contacts were worn and the plunger was sticking which I replaced the contacts and have been working fine for the last three years. I was searching for replacement contacts for a Yaris starter and did not receive any references for vendors. Just complete starters. |

Just an update, since I did the 1ZZ throttle body swap I have not had this issue...at the rate I was experiencing it it should have happened by now.

Same odd infrequent problem
Hi. I have a Yaris 1.3 Spirit and it does the same thing, intermittently though. About every 50 starts. If it was normal I guess it would have done it from the start, however it only started once the car was about 10 years old. It has 140,000 km or ±90,000miles on. I guess I will replace the whole started motor and relay/solinoid thingy.

Same problem here, mine starts, but the starter sticks lile 1 or 2 seconds after it already started. It only happens when starting the car in the morning
