'09 5-Door LB - Aux Jack Harness is different.
I was about to do this w/ my aux jack today:
http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...newpost&t=9852 BUT the harness end that connects to the back of the aux jack is different than the one on the '07 / '08 LBs. This different / new one in my '09 5-door LB has a square shaped connector instead of a rectangle one AND it has 5 wires instead of 4 in the '07 / '08 LBs. It has these wires: 2x red green white gray In my '07 LB there were only 4 wires: 2x red green gray Not sure how to do this modification now. Anyone have the service manual for the '09 5-door LBs or know which wire does what? |

Where did you get the service manual? I asked above in the first post.
Also, does anyone know what the code stands for? ALO: ARO: AGND: ASGN: AUXO: I'm guessing "ALO" is for the left channel and "ARO" is for the right channel. In the '07 / '08 LBs, ASGN was for ground so it's probably the same for the '09. I think "AUXO" is for the HU to sense when something is connected to the aux jack. Now what's "AGND" for? |

I subscribed to TIS to have access to the service manual. ALO: Aux Left Output ARO: Aux Right Output AGND: Aux Ground ASGN: Aux Signal Ground AUXO: Aux Output (switched input to HU to indicate that cable is plugged into Aux jack) AGND is the shield, where as ASGND is the audio signal ground. I think they added the shield to the 09's to fix the noise issue that some people complained of in prior years. |

I looked at the connector on the back of the stock HU that the stock aux jack's harness connects to and the pins on the connector on the back of the stock HU look like needles. I thought that they were flat metal pins. If I solder each wire from my 3.5mm cable to a needle and insert the needle into the corresponding slot in the aux jack's harness connector, do you think that would work? |

I am going to do this myself to add an Aux-Aux jack inside the driver's glove box. I might build an audio mixer to let me feed my GPS and iPhone simultaneously. |

Thanks again CTScott. The audio cable I bought has only the left, right and ground. Can't seem to find the shield on this cable. Didn't have any issues though with my '07's aux jack so I guess I won't bother with the shield this time.

Are you connecting the Aux jack to a different HU? If you are, instead of cutting in at the aux jack, you can connect to the radio's harness and leave the Aux cable and its shield intact. The connector diagram I posted has the radio side pinout for the Aux input.

Great idea! Yes, my goal is to use the stock aux jack with a new Pioneer HU. The Pioneer HU has a 3.5mm auxiliary input on its back. The individual wires on this RCA to 3.5mm cable I have though are tiny (I've already cut the RCA plugs off to expose the wires). How should I connect them to the bare pins of the connector that goes into the back of the stock HU?

I think I may have some of these:
that are small enough to work with the pins in the connector. |

If you use an adapter cable to connect the OEM harness to the new HU you won't have space to use anything other than the correct pin for the OEM connector. Although, it would be great if the adapter cable included the AUX wires.

What's the trick to stripping just a small section of a wire? The aux jack's harness has very thin / very small gauge wires.

I use a small knife to make two parallel cuts (just through the insulation), then a cut along the wire, between the two rings. |
