I've been in Shenzhen, China for 3 weeks

I'm from and live in New York. I'm here in Shenzhen, China, the largest city in China right outside of Hong Kong for business. The city here is tremendously sophisticated and growing. Aside from the expansive settings, I have a found appreciation for all cars. Being my first time here on this side of the hemisphere I was curious what I would find. Here's what I've seen so far;

Straight off the plane at Hong Kong Int'l a white 3d lift Yaris was the first car I saw here in the city. I believe it was some kind of airport transport vehicle.

I see Yaris's 3dr-5dr- the sedan (called VIOS here), I see plenty of Toyota Camry, the Toyota Reiz. I have not seen any Toyota Prius, but have seen some Lexus RX400 Hybrids.

VW is clearly the top automaker here. About 80% of the taxi fleet is the VW Santana 3000. Plenty of Jettas here.

The Honda Fit is extremely popular here. It outnumbers the Yaris clearly in popularity.

Plenty of the luxury cars, BMW, Audi (most popular) Range Rovers, 2 Lamborghini's, 2 Rolls Royce's, Porsche, and Bentley.

You'll see an occasional fiat, peugot, suzuki.

Well just documenting to the YW what an American is seeing on this part of the world..

I was in Hong Kong and Shanghai last year around June, 2010 for about 2 weeks.
I only saw 1 Yaris in Hong Kong used by a driver training company and 1 in Shanghai parked on the streets. Volkswagon's and GM cars are by far the most popular there.

I knew the chinese food coming in was gonna be different from the states... but it's completely different, chicken feet, pig feet, all this duck stuff.. every meal is an adventure, or playing it safe with fast food from back home.. I can only eat so many whoppers and big macs.

I also forgot to mention the Nissan Tiida (Versa). Out of the 3 Fit (Jazz), Tiida, Yaris- most popular to least here in SZ.

I've only seen ONE modified Yaris since I've been here.

to be honest.. I have seen American cars here. I believe there is a Shanghai GM in Shanghai. Chevy Cruze is popular, and the Ford focus too. I've seen maybe 3 cadillac cts's, 1 hummer (like a sore thumb). I've seen plenty of Buick's. And quite honestly, the buicks here look more luxurious than back home IMO.

11 days until I get back home.. I miss my blazin' blue.

....
It might just be the setting and other cars around said buicks making them look so much more so, hehe.

Remember, if your're ugly, hang out with even uglier people, you will look hot. :)

I was in Beijing last year and every other car was a taxi and most of them were Hyundai's and vw's
I only saw 1 yaris - a pink one, getting a parking ticket!
being a fellow owner, it was my duty to add money to the meter (and I also had to pay off the meter maid, but it technically only cost me $2 US to pay off the meter maid!)

I think I gained like 20 pounds from all the yummy food there - in fact, there was food at every corner in that city! and McDonalds and KFC were like gourmet restaurants... and way over priced!

when I was in South Korea, even the cheapest of cars, even cars used just for utility works had niceties like heated seats, head rests that not only adjusted up and down but also forward and backwards, usb ins as well as aux ins, there were more but I can't think of them... I noticed when I was looking at yarii that the european ones come with some things stock that american ones don't.

YIKES! I'm not saying follow in Andrew Zimmerman's footsteps, there's got to be restaurants there that serves "normal" meat with your food. Anyhoo, stay healthy and safe.

Moar pics, please.
