Bridgestone Ecopia 422 vs. Michelin Defender (Costco) in stock 185/60R15
Avid Costco shopper here and I'm tire shopping. I know, Costco doesn't sell a lot of brands. BFGs are also available but they don't give coupon discounts on them. Just wondering if any Yarisworld members bit on those tires from Costco. Comments please. Thanks!

The Ecopias get better fuel economy from what I've seen . We have the 422s' and they're wearing slowly . Got them for under $58 each . Plan to get them for the '08 sedan .

I have the factory OM Bridgestone Potenza RE92 which is wearing good. Unfortunately, they need to be replaced soon. I'm looking for a tire for FE and less expensive than the Potenza brand! Cheers!

I got my Michelin Defenders at Costco. I'm very please with them. They grip like a sports tire, there quiet and I get good mpg.
I look forward to seeing if they will last anywhere near 90,000. miles. I've got 4000 miles on them now, and they measure as new. |

Bridgestone Costco ($70 off) coupon starts today! Out the door price (installed, balanced, "lifetime" rotate and balance, "free" puncture repair, etc.) would be about $400 for the EP422.
Go or no go?

Got the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422!
My tires are super quiet again. They replaced my Michelin Harmony. They are excellent tires but I only managed to get 50K miles on them. I know I can still push them to another 5K to 10K but the wear bars are showing up, got to be safe first. I don't expect my Ecopias to hit 50K like my Harmany but I'm looking forward to its LRR benefits. We'll see. BTW, these Ecopias are Made in Japan.

Nice . Keep us updated with their performance , wear , and if any increase in gas mileage . Need to break in for 1,000 miles or more . Keep ours at 34 > 36 p.s.i. on the '11 Fit . Think most Bridgestone are made in Japan .

I got a set of Bridgeston Ecopia EP422's last Wednesday at Costco. They were out of 185's and Bridgestone was out of them. So, ended up with 195/60 R 15's. So far they ride a lot nicer than the originals. $413 & change out the door.

Just checking back in. It has been almost two months since my new Ecopia 422's and 1,800 miles. There might be a slight increase in gas mileage. I don't really know as I haven't kept any real records. But, the ride is significantly improved. The OEM tires were harsh riding and I felt every, even little, bump. The ride has smoothed out and small bumps are barely felt.

I thought I read the ecopia rode like a bus and had very soft side walls. That was the reason I did not get them. Your comment about smooth ride and not feeling bumps almost makes me feel the articles I read are true. Like the last poster I would like to know how much psi you keep in them.

Keep the 422s' on the '08 sedan at 35>36 . They are quiet and soak up imperfections in the road very well . The handling is fine , we're not a speed demon who tries to defeat those twisty / winding roads . Too old for that . Might through out a hip .

72 days on Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Report
72 days on Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 (185/60R15) Report
Days Driven: 72 (3/19 to 5/30) Miles Driven: 1960.5 (85-90% city driving) Gallons Consumed: 68.448 Average MPG: 28.65 MPG High/Low: 29.94/26.87 Average Price/Gallon: $3.957 (seven fills are with Chevron, one with Costco) Total Fuel Cost: $270.73 ODOmeter reading upon installation: 80,000 Miles Inflated at 40psi. No hypermiling techniques done. A/C is used 65-75% of the time. The Ecopia looks thinner than the Harmony at the same size. They're very quiet and soaks up bumps and cracks on the road extremely well. I get this "floaty" feeling when it cruises. Sometimes, I get this feeling that they just want to keep on rolling. Dry traction is acceptable. However, it does not like "spirited" driving. It's not that forgiving on flowing and abrupt turns. Hey! They're touring tires not performance tires. Breaking is somewhat average. My old Harmony feels more controlled on breaking. Overall, I am warming up to it. I just have to learn to be gentle on the tires and my Yaris.
