I LOVE my Yaris but.........

I have two small problems with my Yaris. They are the fact that there is only one power outlet and it's in an awkward position and I like the position of the gauges but wish they had angled them slightly to-wards the driver. Other than those I am VERY happy with the car.

For an even better car, Toyota should adress the following:

The inside of the fenders need to be covered somehow. With the exposed metal, even a tiny stone makes a huge "ding" sound when thrown up by the tires. I'm worried that this will lead to paint damage and therefore future rust issues.

Driver's seat could use more adjustability. Need to be able to adjust the angle of the seat itself.

Back seats need to fold FLAT. (I also have issues with the back row seats in my '06 Sienna. I think Toyota should hire the Honda seat design engineer!!!).

Reduce the size of the Tach compared with the Speedometer. That would make room for an engine temp gauge.

Better seal for the bottom of the doors.

Reduce the size of the antenna - a shark fin would be nice.

Sorry to be a smart ass, I couldn't resist.

As long as your happy over all with your purchase and at least enjoy it even if your not a car enthusist, I think its still important cause well...your driving it. There's always going to be some little stuff that you wish the car had or did or...its human nature and we obviously have our own distinct needs or more so wants. I do the same thing...but I think its important not to get hung up on this kind of stuff or that will overshadow your likes or even the "enjoyment" of your purchase. Yes there are some legit compliants but if these things bother you so much then why get the car? I'm NOT directing this at anyone in particular just a general statement. "Don't worry be happy!"

The tach is useless ... unless you are on the race track.
For automatics it is totally useless, period.
For stick ... you learn to shift by feel not by the revs on the tach.

When you are racing, by defenition, you are trying to drive at the car's limit all the time - the speedometer is not relevant. You need to maximize the engine performance by shifting at the exact moment - therefore the tach is the most important.

Tachs for race cars (the Yaris is NOT a race car).
The speedometer is sufficient for the everyday commuter vehicle.

Tachs are not completely useless in autos or sticks. I use the tach on my Mazda5 (auto) so that I can keep it under 3k. 3k RPM seems to be the sweet spot and if you go much higher gas mileage drops like a rock.
Or maybe I'm just too dumb to sense where 3k is.

Ever think that that somebody buying the intro vehicle to the toyota line up might be trying to do just that--learn. And that the beginner might really benefit from the aid of a tach until he or she does?

My old Saturn SL2 had idiot lights to tell you when to shift. Having driven only sticks all my life, I found them a funny waste of time and money.

Kudos on complaints here! I can find gripes on my $26,000 saturn Vue also. The biggest grips I have are, I didn't get more options on this great little car.
You Know I read reveiws on how the center pod takes your eyes off the road too long. Obvious they didn't drive it long enough. I find the center pod completely takes out the night reflection of the gage lights ( which are so enyoing ) This is a great little car even if I did take it in for service today.

My guess is that the 0.1% of Yaris owners that will put the car on the track will probably prefer an aftermarket tach anyway. For the other 99.9% that use the car on "normal" roads, the instrument panel would be easier to read without it - i.e. less clutter and less distracting.

I like my Yaris cuz it was inexpensive and doesn't look cheap. It does what its supposed to do and its fun to boot.

There is no need for that 5th seat belt, there is no way 5 people will fit. A better driver seat and steering wheel would help also.
