Cabin Air Filter Question

I saw Bailout's guide on making your own Cabin Air Filter. Thought I'd give it a shot. My question is, does the car use the air filter when using either the fresh air setting and the recirculate?

Thanks.

Did your Yaris come off the lot with one? Mine did not but didn’t realize it till I was 600 miles up the road.

Mine didn't come with one either. Ok, thanks for answering the question. Do you think I'll notice a major freshness from installing it?

I did notice a good deal of difference but I thought it was too restrictive. I ended up making a few DYI filters out of a single house air filter and duck tape. I change the filter every 5,000 miles or so.

4 of the DYI filters are 5 bucks or less depending on the quality of filter you get.

Yes mine are cut to fit and work good. I change mine about every 5,000 miles but I get that many miles fairly fast. I did buy a c38188 air filter and keep it in its box and use it for cutting new ones.

I can make 4 for under $5 depending on what type of filter I buy.

If you read this thread I’m sure you will find a huge amount of info…

Can you elaborate further on this? You mean, it feels like the fan speed of 1 when it is on 2?

With no filter I ran the fan on 1 all the time. With an OEM filter I was running it on 2. I read the DYI and went to the big blue store and got an air filter and started cutting. Once I had the 4 cut out I grabbed a roll of duct tape. I run the fan on 1 and it has just a bit of restriction on it but not much. Look at the type of filter you buy and should be able to tell how mush of what kind of junk it will hold.

Remember all filters are going to be restrictive. Less restrictive=More dust particles getting into your car. More restrictive=Less dust particles into the car
