TRD intake installed (pics)
Installation is pretty straightforward, came with installation manual.
Bought from trdsparks. Nice CAI overall, good build quality and value for money. Also looking good to my taste. Couple pics (having problem with uploading, adding links to be on the safe side) http://photo.qip.ru/users/tolmach/96608749/128218920/ http://photo.qip.ru/users/tolmach/96608749/128218928/ http://photo.qip.ru/users/tolmach/96608749/128218931/ Last edited by TOLMACH; 06-18-2012 at 07:12 PM. |

If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important. |

Thanks,
Liking a lot so far myself. I am also kind of liking the vendor - fast service and solid client care approach (bought couple items so far) - with this one - they promised me the low shipping quote and had problems afterwards - shipped using more expensive fedex option at their own expense (covered the difference themselves). |

TRDsparks and Micro Image are the only two I deal with for Yaris parts, both have great stuff.
It's ashamed the TRD intake is so pricey though. |

TRD does it right by including the hydrolock protector. Do they make a short ram intake? Don't think I've come across one yet.

I do not have much experiance with TRD stuff but their rear sway bar, struts plus springs, and intake are priced in line with the competition or cheaper |

As with most TRD intakes, it's a rebadged AEM.

"The AEM Air Bypass Valve is NOT for use on forced induction vehicles" All of the failures I've seen have actually been on naturally aspirated cars, this was a very common issue on the First Gen Scion xB and xA, there have been a few documented cases of engine failures caused by this part failing. This is why I do not recommend the TRD USA intake for the Yaris.

There have been failures on new kits as well, but it's more likely to fail if the foam is older and weaker. When water is ingested through the air filter it creates an obstruction causing all of the engines air to be sucked in through the bypass which then causes the foam to get sucked in. This can also happen in the dry if the filter is very dirty or clogged up.
I don't know if replacing the bypass every year makes sense, I'd prefer to simply remove it. You can replace the bypass with a straight silicone coupler to avoid the risk of it getting sucked in. There are other ways to deal with the chance of water ingestion such as running the intake in a short ram configuration during winter/rain season and/or installing a water resistant pre-filter over the filter like this one: http://www.aemintakes.com/search/pro...px?Prod=1-4000
