Summer tyres all year round 175/65/r15?

I live in England and have a 2012 Yaris running on Dunlop sp sport tyres which I believe are summer tyres. It's now time to replace all 4 and it's my first change. I was going to get the same tyre until I realised that they are summer tyres and that made me think twice. I've owned car 1.5 years so have driven through winter without any issues. It doesn't snow here much maybe once every 3 years but ever since owning a car I have never owned winter tyres in 20 years, I don't think they're necessary in this country. I only do about 5000 miles a year mostly city driving. Should I be considering all weather tyres or just stick to summer? Any recommendations?

BTW, you have optional sizes to consider when you buy new tyres, all of which fit stock wheels nicely. For example:
175/65/15 = 24.0 (diameter in inches)
185/60/15 = 23.7
195/60/15 = 24.2

I would go with A/S tyres and probably wouldn't choose Dunlops given the choice. There are a lot of much better tyres out there.

Birmingham weather is similar to here. Summer tires are fine for much of the year, but can hydroplane in standing water and get hard at around 7°C. If you want something that sticks in the dry, stay with Summer tires. If you want something that's better in the wet, I would suggest the Kumho 4X all seasons. BTW, All-Weather tires are a different thing as well. They are basically all-seasons that perform better in the snow. They are very popular here with our mild winters where people want one set of tires and still be reasonable in snow (if it shows up).

What's the benefit of me choosing 175/185/195? Does it really make that much difference on a small city car? I'm not really looking for performance as such.

Aside from Kumho, any other A/S tyres you recommend? I just need a list of about 3 and then I'll decide which are best for me.

I never had to use winter tyres when living in England. However, as it seems that lately there have been some bigger snowfalls in the UK, there might be a case for going to All Weather tyres. I've used these myself in Canada. They have a rubber compound which isn't too soft in the summer, yet remains flexible in freezing temperatures. The tread pattern is also a hybrid, with a winter pattern on half the tyre width, and a more normal all-season pattern on the other half.

Given your needs/driving habits, you're probably best with the 175/65/15's.

Those pirellis look ok but isn't a fuel rating of 'E' poor? Or are these ratings fairly inconsequential?

It seems only a handful of A/S tyres get an EU FUEL EFFICIENCY rating of "C", while most are rated "E" and "F".

Why wouldn't u consider the Goodyear? Came out top in the autobild a/s tyre test last year.

How are Nokian priced over there? Their Iline or Line tire may suit your needs. I don't think you guys get the Entyre there?

I suggested the Kumho 4X because they are exceptional in the rain. If fuel economy is more of a concern, then the Nokians may be the better choice. They are still good in the wet, but are more fuel economy minded.

Correction: Nokian E-line is the one I was thinking of. Although the I-line may be an option too.

Both nokian and kumho are budget tyres here, they're both fairly cheap

With weather not being as harsh as other places in the world, I would also say you'd ok with summer tires.

In the winter though, definitly watch out for ice! Especilly icy puddles. They will make you loose grip pretty quick. (Ask me how I know.)

That's where winter tires really shine through and are worth the extra cash.

Which is my point really. In 20+ years of driving I've only ever had summer tyres and have never had any issues driving in any weather including snow. I've never even contemplated getting all weather tyres until now. Hmmm seems as tho maybe both summer and a/s tyres would be suitable for me given the climate in uk.

You may also have driven on some all seasons tyres without realising. I'm pretty sure that happened in my case while in England. All season tyres are good on wet roads, which aren't uncommon in the UK. :-)

I may well have done, I don't pay too much attention to the tyres I have or bought in the past. I usually just replaced like for like on whichever car I had, most if not all were summer type treads.
