Personally I think that even with clean lines the styling is dated by at least 5 years and the price unless the tech inside warrants better should be dropped by a few grand. About the only thing that I really care for of the exterior is the front bumper cover. I like the somewhat toned down upper grille hole.

LOL. I think from that angle it looks like a pretty angry emoticon. Overall, I like the looks...but as others have noted, the price is too high.

This is from AutoGuide.com:

So why would anyone buy a Mitsubishi Mirage? Because it is dirt-freaking-cheap. The Mirage DE costs $13,790 ($12,995 plus a mandatory $795 destination fee) and includes power windows, mirrors and locks, a 4-speaker stereo with a USB port, seven airbags (including one for the driver's knees), piano-black trim, and -- get this -- not just air conditioning, but automatic climate control.

I meant (and I thought everyone else did) that the specific example the OP found was too expensive. IIRC, there was a previous thread about this vehicle and one of the focal points was the low base price.

Liked the Ford Festivas we had with the 1.3 ltr. ( Mazda 121 ) , tough engines . Seen it with a friend who had an '88 , took a lot of abuse for 150,000+ miles . Didn't change the factory fill oil until 30,000+ miles . Not sure an aluminum block could endure that , had the cast iron . Here's the window sticker for the Mirage ES ( use ZOOM to see print better ) . You never pay sticker . Should be able to buy it for less than $16,000 . Wish the hatchbacks would have the airbag for rear impact like that of the Scion IQ to protect passengers in back seat . Not much space between rear seat and hatch door . I agree with KIMONA that you get a lot for money . Can't go wrong with a 10 yr. / 100,000 mile powertrain .

There's a $750 rebate that ends 12/2 . States price is also negotiable . This is at their website .

Found this review from AUTOGUIDE for the C.V.T. and manual , http://www.autoguide.com/manufacture...view-3502.html . Not liked for the ride and comfort , but neither was the 2012 Yaris by Consumer Reports .

Very informative linked review. I'd rather have the manual transmission and do without (from the factory) the 7 features the SE adds and save $2200.00 ($1,000 plus $1,200).

Sure... but the CVT gets significantly better gas mileage (generally one of the main reasons to buy an econobox) than the manual transmission (which doesn't sound too impressive). And... it looks like the CVT can be added (+$1000) to the base model DE which comes surprisingly well equipped.

The car I had before my Yaris (from end of August 2001 to October 7, 2006) was a 2001 Suzuki Swift (New to 151k + miles). It had a 1.3 liter engine and a manual transmission. I always felt that it needed the manual transmission to ensure enough potential acceleration should the need arise in an emergency situation. During my tenure with the Swift, I (for what reason I don't remember) was able to drive the same car with an automatic transmission. This experience confirmed my earlier conclusion. With an even smaller engine, I would be worried the same would be true with the Mitsubishi. Yes, I know a CVT isn't a traditional automatic, but it isn't a manual either.

I agree, the DE comes surprisingly well equipped.
