Valve Noise
I have had my Yaris for about 6 weeks. I just noticed that after the engine is warmed up, there is a "ticking" noise from the engine. It is typical of when an engine is in need a valve adjustment. However, a new engine shouldn't need a valve adjustment. In doing a little research, these are not the typical type of valves to adjust. You have to measure your clearance, do a little math, and replace the lifters with ones of differant size.. Boy!!.
So... Am I being to critical of the engine / valve train noise? When the engine is started and cold, it is a quiet as can be. Once warmed up, the valves are ticking. I have owned several 4 cylinder powered cars and none have ticked. Someone said that it may be the fuel injectors I am hearing. This would not explain why when the engine is cold that the sound is not there. I guess I should bring it in but warranty or not, taking in a car is a pain in the a$$. Anyone else have a ticking engine? |
