Tein Springs - Cut Bumpstop? 3dr - Toyota Yaris Forums

With my echo I never bothered, didn't know whether we needed to either.

Anyways, I received a set of Tokico blues and Tein Springs (thanks Garm) today, and will be putting them on myself (Brother did the echo, i held the beer..)

So, is cutting the bumpstop neccessary for this application?

I had Tein's and cut the bumpstops according to regs. When I removed them to replace them with coilovers, I noticed that both bumpstops were FUBAR. I would leave the bumpstops alone for a couple of months. If you don"t feel like your cars struts are gonna break off, then there's no problem.

im running tein stechs and tokico blues been for several months now...i cut the bumpstops just below the plastic bushing ring thing...you will see what im talked about wen you get ur bumpstop out. u do need to cut them because the tein springs are soft so u will compress and hit ut bumpstops if you dont. i havent had any problems with bottoming out yet so thers my 2 cents

Frankly, I'd rather protect the strut from bottoming than have a slightly more comfortable ride.

The issue IME is when your traveling fast with a heavy load, you hit a large dip and break your back(not literally) when the car comes to a sudden stop halfway through it. Other than that it's probably not going to be a problem leaving them longer.

I did cut mine when I installed my DF's on factory shocks because I was worried they would be super bouncy and keep slamming me around.

When I did TRD springs and struts, I did not cut them. If you have the accompanying shocks with the springs, it's not necessary to cut the stops. If you're doing just springs, then you might want to cut the stops. That's what I've heard. There are so many different opinions on this matter though.

In the end I didn't cut them I am going to see how it goes. The car has a 2nd person in it maybe 2x a year, and the only time it has a load in it is when I take the winter wheels to the stealership to have them mounted (no charge of course!)

you should have cut them...but with that kind of drop, your wheels will likely rub before you hit the bump stop

I had Teins on my echo hb and didn't cut bumpstops, I can recall hitting the bumpstop maybe once in the 5 years I had it. It would rub at the front on rare occasions (195/50/15's on ET38 rims at least i think that was the offset) but it would have to be extreme for it to happen. The echo actually sat lower than the Yaris is so far.

Not been using the car much since I did it, on vacation and have the place to myself so being a bum for a week!

Can't wait for the wheels to arrive... then to see if 17 " ET42 will work with/without 10mm spacers in the rear..
