My horn decided to stick when i was doing something in the car in the garage.. i was almost deaf by the time i was able to pop the hood, get a 10mm wrench and disconnect the battery.

Not a bad thought. If the O.P. has access to a code reader, one would be stored if this is the case.

no codes stored. I do have an rpm signal while cranking, however not sure where this particular car gets its rpm signal, be it the cam or crank sensor

is it possible on this car that one sensor drives the coils while the other fires the injectors? However it should of set a code by now I'm sure.

With the way it dies, if it was the sensor, it would have thrown a code.

Does the CEL light when you turn the key to the on position?

Just a shot in the dark, but did you try filling the tank? Alot of time the fuel level sensor is off by up to a quater tank. I've replaced dozens of them. Just worth a shot putting gas in it. Easy way to check injector pulse, take a led out of something and put it in the injector connector. See if it flashes. Simply a noid light.

And just to add, the fuel pump only operates while cranking until the engine has started.

The fuel pump actually comes on and stays on when the key is on. It does not shut off until the ignition is turned back off.

The CEL on tells me that the ECM is at least partially functioning, but I still think that it is the problem.

My bad, it only operates while cranking on my echo until the engine starts.

Same with this car. Pump only runs while cranking or when it's running on starting fluid. Never with just key on

It should. If you listen by the rear of the car, you should hear the pump as soon as the key is in the ON position.

Definately the pump runs upon switching on the ignition. All the FI vehicles I ever owned did.

The first paragraph explains how the fuel pump works on my car. I'll see if I can find one for the yaris.

It would be messy, but would it not be advantageous at this point to disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail?

If gas immediately flows out, you know your line is at least pressurized which is good. After that, if fuel still flows out of the line with key on or cranking, even better. Eliminates pump as a suspect would it not?

You know the coils are working as you can run the car by feeding fluid into the TB. That would leave you with an injector issue.

He has verified that the injectors are not pulsing. The fuel pump is definitely not the issue.

Ok I'm still ready to condemn the ecu. However, let me clarify a few things.

The back seat is out of the car and I have wired up an LED to monitor pump operation. Nothing with key on, only while cranking or running on starting fluid

The new issue I noticed is AFTER you try to start the car and give up, there is a high pitched noise coming from the throttle body that only quits when you either unplug the throttle body or cycle the key. The battery isn't low either as I have been keeping a charger on it.

Also, my final question, since this car does NOT have the immobilizer, if I get a used ecu that came out of a 09 automatic with no immobilizer does it still need to be programmed?
