Gas pedal problem?

Got my Yaris Hatchback 5 speed a few weeks back. The problem I am having is that at the top of the gas pedal there is about 1/2" of play. This makes coordination of starting out/shifting quite difficult. I didn't have this problem on the HB that I test drove. When I first got the car I was stalling it out @ 5 times a day but now just @ once every other day. I am finding that I've started to rev a bit before starting out. I'm not new to 5 speeds as I drove my Geo Metro for 11 years and 211,000 miles before it got totalled out on 5/22/06. I haven't taken it to the dealer as yet as they are @ 60 miles away. Has anyone else experienced this? Have a fix?
Also the engine doesn't seem to 'rev down' very quickly when shifting. Makes for some pretty sloppy shifts.

yeah, ive been driving stick for almost 20 years and this car was a big adjustment for me,
the yaris has a drive-by-wire system with electronic throttle, so it has a different feel to it, it also holds on to the rev a bit longer when you let off of the gas.
it took me a few months to get used to it

i dont' have a clue about whether it is adjustable or not, but mine drives the same as the two i test drove, so i assume it is not faulty,
i'm used to it now, so i think i just let of the gas a bit quicker when shifting gears.

I have found myself starting to do this also, but it still doesn't seem right. Guess I'll have to find some time to take it into the dealer

I brought this throddle response up a few weeks ago and people thought I was nuts. I have been driving sticks all my life . The throddle response is slow. After driving my Yaris for a couple weeks, I got back in my WRX for a drive and almost got whiplash. I am use to it now and no problem.

i must have missed your post on the throttle subject, but this subject has come up more than the two times, so it is clearly something that people are noticing.

I commented on a post dealing with fuel. I too had the exact same problem in my Yaris but I thought that maybe it was the 98 octane fuel I was using for about 3 months. I then changed to 95 octane and the problem began to go away. My Yaris is running 100% now and thought that this might help you all. If you are running 95 try 91 or maybe even go higher.

I've got the same problem, except mines an auto.

I put it down to the fact that I'm still breaking in the engine.

They are checking with Toyota USA HQ in California. Tech took it for a test drive and documentd the problem. Stay tuned.

Word is that Toyota HQ claims that this is normal with the electronic throttle and that all models will react the same. The dealer is supporting this as 'one of their 5 speeds has the same pedal response'. No one can answer why this is not a problem with many of the Yaris' and why the one I test drove didn't have it.

Notice the same thing here with the 2010. Have a 91 Celica and 95 Tacoma and it sure was a crazy difference with the response of the throttle. Could be related to the runaway problem I posted about on the other thread here. It is actually worse in the extreme cold like we had a couple weeks ago. I have nearly 2-million miles on stick and this is the first one I seem to stall every time. Other half also has hundreds of thousands of stick time and this is the first vehicle that stalling is common on due to throttle response.
