Question Idle RPM

Hi there,

When the engine is warm on my Yaris, my RPM goes up and down between 650 and 500 RPM and at 500 the whole car shakes, so iIt creates this intermittent shaking. Toyota says that these are normal idle speeds.

Has this happened to anyone else?

No. Seems I am lucky again. I think if the car shakes, the idling speed is not normal.

My RPM's are about the same, but I haven't had the problem you're seeing here. Could be the time of year. I'm not sure what the weather is doing where you are, but it's up and down here, which can cause moisture in the gas and cause a little bit of issues. Plus the gas in winter is actually mixed a little different so when it's warm, the car won't run as well.

I think you should bring your car back to the dealer to check. Vibration is normal, but not shaking.

when warm mine idle's at around 500-700 anywhere in there. when my battery was dead and the engine had to re-learn everything it was dropping to 450 and at that point there was a small shuttering but nothing too bad.

Isn't it something about the cooling fan starting up, or some compressor thing turning on and off to control heat? I had the same problem when the car was new... its kinda just gone away with some cleaning of MAF, new air filter etc... probably unrelated.
