Road trip

Leaving this weekend to drive out to Columbus OH. Apprx. 730 miles each way.

Last time I made this trip I was on stock tires @ 38psi, & summer gas. I was getting 42-44 mpg.

Well now I just put on General Altimax Arctics for the winter, fresh oil change, and winter gas.

If I can get around 39+ mpg. this time I'll be pretty happy with that. Plus I'll only have to stop once for fuel, except for a brief stop to Cabela's in Hamburg, PA.

Right now combined city/hywy driving 37+- mpg. on the Generals. Of course since the snows have gone on daytime temps are in the 50's.

new-yaris-owner, jcboy, thanks.

I posted this thread just so i can compare the mileage I got over the summer on this exact trip vs. now with the snows and different gas blend.

Will try to take a few pics along the way, as time and good weather permit.

This has been a bad day here in the States and while this may not be the time or the place or the forum for that matter, and not to turn this into a political or religious thread my thoughts and dare I say prayers go out to anyone affected by what took place in CT. today.

Yeah, I know CTScott and enviri live in Connecticut and I thought how much more intense and magnified this must seem for them and their families....even more numbing than for those of us outside Connecticut.

It definitely hit far too close to home for us. I live in the next town over, just a couple miles from the school where it happened, and I have two children - One in elementary and one in middle school.

I too live about 5-10 min away from the town where the shooting is and everyone around here is paranoid and scared. Can't blame them.

You're right. All of those feelings are definitely understandable.

Have a safe / happy one and keep us up to par . We're getting 37 overall with the Blizzak WS 70s' since put on 3 > 4 weeks ago . The Altimax look to have a fairly low resistant tread design . All the siping of the winter tires probably won't help the F.E.. The Eco-Meter is showing 39 for now . The calculated has been lower since the cold / wet weather . Might have to reset it . Now at 96 .

I drive from Temecula Ca to Redding Ca a few times a year on I-5 at 713 miles each way. If I can stubbornly avoid the road pressure to hit 70, 75, or more mles per hour I can eek out 38-39 mpg and thats the bet Ive ever done.

Otherwise, that trip at 75+ mph puts me into the 34-35 mpg range.

Gas is 3.11 here a gallon now in NJ. Good time for a trip!

I plan to drive myself New years weekend. 250 miles away. Plan to go ~65 mph and hoping for that 42 mpg myself...

" The Eco-Meter is showing 39 for now . The calculated has been lower since the cold / wet weather . Might have to reset it . Now at 96 . "

Ended up with 40.3 calculated ( 356.2 mis. / 8.84 gals. ) with the WS 70s' . 2 bars left . Average temp of 33 .
