Unhappy Well, I went and did something stupid, and wrecked my Yaris

I was on my way to work and started goofing off, and took an S curve really fast... It's usually an empty road but right as I was leaving the second bend, there was a cop coming the other way. When I saw the cop (not when he turned on his lights like I wrote before), it spooked me, and I lost control of the car. I fish-tailed a couple of times, then veered off the road, over a curb and into(through) a no parking sign. I got 3 tickets and almost went to jail. He wrote me up for "reckless driving", "left of center", and doing 73mph in a 30mph zone. I was very worried I was going to jail. He had the cuffs on me and in the back of the car. I was praying to God that if he keeps me out of jail, I'll never do that on public streets again. People from my work kept stopping to find out if I was ok. Miraculously, the cop let me go, but I have a court date the beginning of August. The insurance company said it was about $6,200 worth of damage and I will owe them the $500 deductible when the car is fixed(around the 21st). Basically, I can't believe how stupid I was. You can flame me all you want, it can't be worse then the ass kicking I'm already giving myself... I took these pictures at the tow lot with my crappy cell phone camera before the insurance company towed it to a body shop. Just a warning to everyone out there, to keep it on the track,or you might end up like me, or worse...

bummer, man... I think we've all had our share of stupid driving mistakes like this... But lesson learned, and most importantly, lucky nobody got hurt!

Glad you are okay. That was rather dumb, but hopefully you learned your lesson.
I did some dumb things when I was younger, but nothing like that. Just wondering how
old you are. Maybe that had something to do with why the cop let you go.
Can I assume you had a clean record before this?
Keep us aprised of the final outcome.

sadly I'm 33... also sadly the only thing on my record is an "excessive speed" ticket from the wreck of my previous car (which was totaled, and necessitated the purchase of this Yaris...)

Yea, I am very thankful no one was hurt... I went right between 2 trees after the sign. If I had hit one of them, I bet the air bags would have deployed. As it was I just slowed to a stop after the sign, so I got lucky there...

With that much damage I'm surprised it didn't get totalled.

Just be glad you didn't hurt yourself or an innocent person.

Yea, they asked me if I preferred OEM parts and I said yes... I really hope it feels the same to drive it after I get it back...

get an estimate from the most expensive body shop in the area and give that to the ins company and tell them you want to get it fixed at the shop you want. then get a big check from them and go where it is a little cheaper.. then take the extra cash and go buy some goodies from the YW vendors and pimp out your car :)

lol 6200 you could spend another 1000 and just get a 2007 yaris used.

Was it raining when the incident happened, because what I'm seeing is rather shallow-treaded tires on your car, even then, the tread pattern suggests its a more comfort/noise oriented than sports driving sort of tire.

Decent tires, guys. Get some. I respect a stock looking car with serious rubber more than a riced out car with commuter tires.

Lesson learned. Glad you're OK. And your fines will help fund our bankrupt government. :)
