Question Stock Muffler?

There is probably another thread asking the same question? I found nothing in a search relating to this...

While detailing my Yaris this afternoon...

I noticed that the stock muffler at two of the back weld points is starting to rust? Looks crappy! My vehicle is a 2010 and only 6 months old. Is the Yaris known for this???

What can be done other than getting a new exhaust/muffler system. Paint? Specific paint for muffler? What would you recommend for DIY?

Thanks in advance...

You could hit it with some Rustoleum High-Temp flat black grille/oven paint.

Thanks! I picked-up some Rustoleum High Heat 2,000F Header Paint - Flat Black. They only had the grill paint in Gloss!

I'm taking the surface rust off right now with 80 grit paper... I will be spraying on later this afternoon...

There's certainly nothing wrong with painting/cleaning up your muffler, but I wouldn't get too concerned over this. Unfortunately, exhaust gasses are highly corrosive and will cause rust no matter what you do.

On the positive side, the muffler is pretty well hidden by the bumper cover...

I did something similar... just sprayed the lower visible part with regular spray paint leftover from another project. It adds considerably to the good looks of the Yaris.
