Crap getting in around the MAF sensor

Every time it gets cold my car starts throwing CELs about it running rich if I let it idle too long. It's done that since going to the 1zz injectors. I've just not worried about it for the last few years. This year it did the same thing, then the CEL just stayed on. I finally pulled the codes this morning and noticed the P0101 MAF code. I've fought the friggin' MAF in this car many, many times. I guess the little rubber/foam seal thing around it's gone a bit janky, as crap is able to get in there between the MAF and the plastic snout. Those sensors cost way too much for what they are and I really don't want to buy another one. Can I put silicone gasket sealer around it and be fine?
