Charcoal Canister removal help
Hello All,
I am stuck trying to remove my charcoal canister. I am not sure how to remove these two connectors. I can see of the smaller of the two that it looks like you should squeeze the tabs together and the hose should come off but for the life of me I cannot seem to manage to get it to budge. The larger one I have no clue how to tackle. Looks as if the connector needs to be broken to remove??? Thanks |

I just took the one off of the Yaris that I am parting out, so I have first hand experience with this. It is bit of a hassle to get that big guy off. You are supposed to just have to squeeze the flats at the point furthest from the canister, but for the life of me I could not get it. The whole connector stays together by the way.
If you look closely you will see two barbs on the canister that the connector latches onto. I ended up taking two tiny flat blade screwdrivers and slipping them up from the canister side to release the part that catches on those tabs. Once I did that it slipped off with no problem. With the little guy, you have to push the connector in before squeezing the tabs and then you can squeeze them and slide it right off.

Unbolt it first, then you have enough play is the hoses to work while sitting.

So in all honesty is there really a true need for the canister if you have one that has failed?

If you don't have it you will eternally have a CEL and will not be able to pass emissions if your state does testing.

I just figured that I would bring that question up since folks do have them that are failing. I am glad that it won't be a concern for me.
