2018 Spring Meet & Greet - SW Ontario

Hey All!

The wheeling group I was a member of used to do an annual meet & greet before the season opened each spring. We'd post up a date and location, usually a plaza with a pub not too far off 401 to make it easy to access, and we'd line up the trucks, catch up with the members you know, meet new members, and check out who's done what to their rig. Because the trails are seasonal it was something to get you out of the winter slumber and look forward to the warmer (usually wetter) weather - also made for a good excuse to get your junk in running order before the trails opened, lol.

Looking back I see a few meet and greets posted in different regions, but nothing too recent. Seems like there's a number of people in the SW Ontario region, so I thought I'd throw the idea of a YW spring meet and greet. What do you think? GTA is usually most central for people to meet, but open to ideas.

Post up if you're interested, and when and where you could do a meet.

I'd be up for this. End of April wouldn't be a bad time as the weather should be a bit better and everyone will have their Yaris' in summer mode.

Anywhere across the gta would work but I'd recommend to stay away from the busy centers ie: busy Malls in Toronto, square one are and so on. Adds a lot of hassle to get to. A smaller quieter suburb would be a good idea as we are all scattered throughout the gta.

Right on. Hopefully we'll see some more folks jump inover the next while...

I'm damned if I can remember where we did the M&G and unfortunately can't look back as the forum has shut down. But agree, somewhere easy to get to - I live in a rural area, anything more than 10 cars at a time is total gridlock and makes me stressed! OK, not that bad, but I don't dig fighting traffic in a mega center either. Do admit that somewhere with a mall or plaza near means if folks bring a spouse and kids there's somewhere the can go to when they get bored of staring at Yaris'.

I agree on a West of the city meet up. For those living in the city it isn't really any more traffic and for those of those living West of the city it helps them avoid traffic. Last I checked not many on here East of the city.

I think the last meet and greet was at the Krispy Kreme off Maivs and the 401. Not ideal now due to the huge supercenter there a bit West of that would probably be a bit better, say around Milton or where ever. See what othersthink

i'd make the trek down that way, just not sure about others in the GTA and there are a fair amount of them. It would be much quieter though. What about Woodstock?

Does Krispy Kreme even still exist!? I'm clearly very isolated.. lol

Somewhere West end jives for me, saves making my way through the city. I guess we'll see who's in and where everyone's coming from..

Apparently the Mavis location is the only one left in Canada as the others got closed down.

I'm never a fan of those massive car meets they had. Whenever I drove by it always seemed to end up being a d*ck measuring contest. I don't seem to fit in with the type of people those meets tend to attract. A Hat is meet is a different story. Plus those Krispy kreme meets were cop magnets. Id rather stay away from that

were they just Yaris meets or the large general car type meets? I never attended the Yaris meets but I've driven by the huge car meets a few times and it always appeared to be bad news bears with guys doing burnouts and driving stupid pulling in or out of the lot and cops always seemed to be there.

They were the Toyota Nation West End meets and back in the day were quite large. Lots of Matrix, MR2, Corolla, Yaris, etc. Never an issue.

So the important question if the Krispy Kreme is a good potential meet location: does Krispy Kreme have decent coffee?? Or at least is there decent coffee near by? lol

Good to know re: coffee.

Are you regularily scheduled up here, or random times? Nothing in concrete, looking toward end of April, early May if that lines up a good weekend for you.

I heard today that I'm back to shift mid-March, looks like April 14/15 or 28/29 is best for me, or May 12/13 if we want to wait for warmer weather - Wiarton Willy did call for 6 more weeks of cold.. lol (all assuming I don't get shuffled to a different crew, again.) Those aren't exclusive, I can always request a shift off Vacation.

Gotta get some of the lurkers out there to jump in..
