Sound dampening rear hatch area?

I currently have the 40 section of my rear seats and a rear strut tower bar in the back of my Yaris, that is it. I get a lot of road/exhaust noise while driving and I was wondering...has anyone who has removed their seats/trunk/spare tried using Dynamat or Fat Mat to dampen the sound? Impressions? Suggestions?

Thank you

I used RAAMMat and the improvement was huge. The sound from my TRD exhaust was a bit too loud inside.

Also improved the sound of the rear speakers greatly by damping the flimsy speaker panel.

The installation looks crappy because I did it myself and I laid down little strips. The RAAMmat sticks to your hands like crazy. It sticks to rubber gloves even worse.

Great, thank you very much for the pictures and info. Would you be able to recommend a place to buy some?

I bought one 50 foot roll. It's 15 inches wide and gives you 62.5 sq. ft.

$118.96

I think I've used 4/5 of it. I'm saving the rest for when I take my door panels off to see if I can sound deaden the front speaker panel.

I'd like to do that whole hatch / trunk area, all four of my doors, and some for the hood and engine bay.

I wonder how much weight that would add.

I Used 80 feet of Dyna mat extreme. as per above photo's but i have no gaps in mine at all. with none left over , makes a massive
differance to the noise,in the car.

I have now done 3 cars with deadening and it is the best bang for my buck as far as a mod goes.

Stereo is way cleaner sounding, exhaust has lots less drone, road noise is almost gone.

My tC has 150feet of it,the other tC I did has 100,and the xA I just finished has about 75.

So RAAMMat vs. Fatmat vs. Dynamat. What's the difference w/ the cheapest product from each and which is best / highest quality / easiest to install?

Read the sound deadener showdown link above and then let your pocketbook decide.

Looks like SeconSkin Damplifier Pro. is the way to go. It's around $290 though for 80sq. ft. of it.

Actually, there was a large thread previously but was lost with the hack. I'm glad I was able to read it and find the material.

Oh that's cool, I guess I just started thinking about doing this and I wasn't able to find a thread on the topic. Thanks again.

going ghetto

I know its way ghetto, but I went with pipe-insulator. It looks and feels like the name-brand matts...a closed cell foam, sticky on one side, foil on the other side. I also taped all edges with cold-weather, HVAC foil tape.
I've no way to compare this set up to any of the name-brand matts, but it made a *huge* difference! The only worry I have is if it will stay put in next summers heat.
As far as price...2 rolls insulator @ $17 and 1 roll HVAC tape @ $20.

We'll see what happens next summer!
