Well I found the MAF safe cleaner from CRC and I cleaned the throttle body there was a build up of dust etc at the butterfly, it seems to run a bit smoother with better response. I still have the harmonic vibration at 2000 rpm, I ran out of time to pull the muffler but that will be next, if that fails I will look at the h20 pump and belt tensioners etc, Thanks for the belt tension tip.

I take my comment back. I do still ahve this vibration.

Open your door, hold it with one hand, and start revving your engine slowly, and you will feel the whole car shake around 1700-2000rpm.

I dont know, more like the car vibrates with the vibration of the car, no way around that? Maybe just cheap engine mounts?

Yah your right mine comes in a bit later around 2000-2600 rpm I bet if more people tried it they may be suprized to find how much harmonic vibration it is.

IIRC there are two total mounts...one tranny side and one motor side?

ergo there will be more vibration than you can bargain for, from say a lexus...

get a torque damper/ motor mount stiffy...

As I have said before, all of this begs the question of WHY you would worry about this vibration that only happens when the engine is unloaded. I have never, ever felt this when driving, which is the only time my engine ever gets to that rev range. So I don't (and won't) worry about it.

When I'm at the Autocross at 6500 rpm I really don't want it to blow up, thats why I want to get rid of any harmonic vibrations especially ones big enough to feel in the seat of the car, under no load. I still have not had time to remove the aftermarket muffler to see if thats all it is, now go sail away

Yubbut - y'see - it's the "no load" thing that bugs me, since the engine will behave very differently at load to how it behaves without load. It is entirely possible that there is NO vibration induced under load. By repeatedly running the engine to high no-load rpms, you may in fact be damaging the little beast.
That's my point...

So I'll go sail away - blow it up if you want.

LOL, if there is harmonic vibration under no load, there can be more damage done under load without knowing it because it's under laod, for example if there is harmonic vibration is due to a unbalaced crank pulley under load the main bearings could wear uneavenly. Maybe I'm picky, but I really want to isolate where the problem is, if not I'll maybe I can blow it up for you

Don't fotget this is an inline 4, which is inherantly unbalanced. A compromise is made as far as the harmonics are concerned to make the engine as smooth as possible at cruise rpm, while transiant harmonics are mitigated as much as possible through component weights (i.e. a heavy crank will have resonant frequencies than a lighter one).

Also, the stock crank pully is heavy for a reason. When I installed the 10% underdrive pulley I noticed an overall increase in vibrations, but everything smooth's out above 2K rpms.

I did this on my last car made hard launches much smoother and fast shifting better, but a lot more vibration entered the cabin.

Is that your personal exhaust, or your Scion's?

what a bunch of off-topic nonsense in this thread.
my car has this vibration at 2000rpm too.
feels like someone pulls a plug wire (exaggerating) at 2000....

googling brought me here
mines a bit shaky at idle too

My Yaris with 1NZ-FE also has the vibration at 2000 RPM (if revved with no load). Since there are other people in here whose cars have the same vibration at the same RPM, then I guess it is just a characteristic of this engine. So, I'm not going to worry about it.
