apparently, its an aftermarket modified air intake. K&N air filter. ill go back to the previous owner to ask if he still has the original air intake. forgot to take pictures of it.

The bumper isn't hard to remove, more time consuming than anything else. At least you don't need to replace the filter, you can just clean it :)

Are you keeping your tires at 33 psi? You'll get better MPG if inflated a little more. Just don't exceed sidewall specs. I run mine at 40-42 psi.

Synthetic will help a little, especially if you go to a lighter weight (5W20)

You can remove the top clips of the bumper and pull it out to get access to that air filter in about 30 seconds or less...

just the clip on top? how about on the sides or something? im hesitant to take off the front bumper as to further break the clips.

Clean your MAF and your o2 sensor may need checking as well .

I have supercharger, 18" rims and full headerback exhaust and still got 32 mpg .... But I run on 93 If its make any difference

where is the MAF located? i read the tutorial, and i cant see it in my engine.

update - i cant remove the front bumper leading to the air filter. the clips are tough ones. the first 2 clips that i moved break easily. so i didnt push through with the plan..

okay, i just filled my tank again and its still on 25mpg :( i dont know what to do anymore!

- return the air intake to stock
- get a 15" rims

i already tried reseting the ECU, change spark plug and tune up.

You tried any lucas fuel treatment? might be worth a shot.

And you're sure 33 is the max psi for your tires?

Maybe check for a leak?

and after seeing the pictures of your engine compartment I'd say definitely find a way to get rid of that filter and get a new one. Looks a little too twisted to be useful to me; but I could easily be wrong. Anyone else got an opinion on that measure?

its located on your intake pipe coming off the throttle body.
between the blue silicone tubing and the air bypass filter, the sensor with the 5wire connector

Hey Vincent,

I'd go back to the stock air box if you have one handy. Who knows when that air filter was serviced if you have to take the car apart just to get to it. You should be getting way better mileage than that.

Hey, just thinking... you may have another option if you don't have an original air box. You might consider mounting the air cleaner at the connection point just after the first 90 degree downturn of your intake pipe. Try cleaning it (and lightly oiling it if it's an oil filter), and installing it where that big round black rubber thing is now and see what happens.

It would turn yours into a short ram intake.
