Yaris brake LED color white or red?

Hi,

Excuse for my bad english - I'm not native.
I have replaced the 5W stanby-bulbs and license plate bubl of my 08 Yaris with LED's.
That works out fine and nice.
(just for reference: these ones http://www.ebay.com/itm/Warm-White-3...item2ed4c34495)

Now I replaced the brake lights. They are P21W white bulbs.
I choosed this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/310673918211...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They fill up the armature better then the incandescent bulbs, but
due to the size. They have less of a "hot spot" in the middle.

Also quite a bit of light is lost in the red armature.
So maybe I shoold choose a red LED, instead of a white.
I'm thinking of these:
- They have less, but brighter LEDs
- And are red.

the red leds might be brighter on frosted clear lens compared to what you say (white leds on the stock red lens) but in my opinion the red leds would be less bright if paired up against the stock red lens. more on the wavelength getting cancelled or something.

Choose RED leds behind a red lens, not white LEDs behind a red lens.

White behind the red lens would turn pinkish.

100% RED LED!

White will not work very well as LEDs do not emit all wave lengths of light unless designed to. A white LED behind a red lens won't be safely visible.

makes sense. i just based my recommendations from the regular bulbs on stock taillights.

i use white LEDs on my 3rd brake lights, and though they don't turn pinkish and look really good (like stock camry 3rd brakelights), im now thinking if i shouldve tried the reds. dang!

You always want to match the LED to the color of the lense. Red for red, amber for amber, white for clear or white. For my headlights, fogs and soon reverse I went with 6000k white to match the HIDs.

Hi All,
As promised:
My Red LEDs arrived!

Short answer: they work beautiful!
Cost around 20$ (ebay: High Power 25W 1156 BA15S CREE LED Car Tail Reverse Light Brake Light Red)
But worth it.
I have done a Side by side compare to the incandescent.
To compare it, I had replaced one LED (left) in the car, and one incandescent (right) in the car.
Very difficult to tell apart. The "bulb glass" is a nice touch.
I am happy :)

I think I will try the amber version too. I already have a suitable LED flasher.
Anything I should now about that? (flasher is behind the little box on the left side)

Pictures below.

Yaris brake LED color white or red?

What? Those are not even the bulbs used in the yaris.

Or is it for something else? My Yaris uses 7441/7440 bulbs.

Hi,

The original brake light bulbs are white P21W.
Mind you, this is a European Yaris (Built in France I believe)
Maybe that explains the difference? I pressume the 7441 bulb is from the U.S. Yaris?

Here is a picture with the led's installed.
My camera white balance is not correct. But the LED's intensity is the same as the 3rd stoplight.
The 3rd stoplight is original (I think they are already led?)

Nice! Yes the top brake light is LED by default. I ordered a pair of 7443 LEDs like yours, I'll also post when I get mine in a couple weeks to compare. Your post inspired me to go this route, I'd always wanted to try LEDs this way.
