Thumbs up LTA Land Speed Races Harvest Edition 2011

Well this past weekend was the Harvest Edition of the Loring Time Association's Land Speed Races. This was my first time participating. It was great fun and I believe that it has given me a good indicator of what I really want to do with the car. The LSR is different than some of the racing that many are used to because it is only about hitting your top speed. You get 1.5 miles and then have 1 mile to decelerate. For those that are interested the site for the LTA is http://lta-lsr.com/default.aspx. I ran my Yaris with the 7psi of boost and had a blast.

I picked up Jumpman's 18s with the 225s so I essentially was able to "fool" the stock ECU with taller wheels/tires. My top speed via GPS showed at 125mph which makes sense when you calculate the difference. CTScott was dead on that the 18s with 225s gave me roughly 4" further per revolution of the tires. The real challenge was timing the fuel cutoff just right to try and come through the traps with my best speed possible. I was able to make 13 passes over the course of the two days.

I am in the H/PS class which essentially means that I am in the 1500cc production supercharged class. I now hold the record with 120.91 through the traps. Each pass you make you get a signed timeslip which is pretty cool. I will be receiving a certificate and a plaque to go along with it.

I was invited to the next race location which is down in Carolina, but I will have to miss that one due to work. Honestly as well without having a standalone the cost to go would not be worth it. I am registered for 3 years with my number and can attend at multiple qualifying locations to even include the Bonneville Salt Flats.

My buddy Jason was there as well with his Nissan sr20 Race Truck however he had multiple issues arise varying from his output shaft snapping, boost controller malfuctions, charge pipe blowing off, and blown gears in his tranny. He kept on working to move forward though all weekend long. Jason pulled a 152mph run however at the July event he pulled a 179. He is licensed for 200+ and was hoping to reach that, but unfortunately not in the cards for this one. He will be attending the event in Carolina in October though.

I have some photos and videos to share from the weekend and I hope that others enjoy.

The orange truck is Jason's which was pushing over 1000hp and 70lbs of boost. The yellow mustang is my friend Carl's and he was around 500hp. The Challenger was over 600hp if not mistaken. The 250 Enduro bike is Jesse's and he did just shy of 102mph for his best run.

Thanks! My goal is to actually push the record up to 150 for the H class production supercharged division by next summer. I will have to be careful what upgrades I do so I don't push myself into the super street division because then I will get my ass handed to me by larger CID displacement motors. I had so many people come up to me loving my car which was pretty refreshing to be honest. The type of people tho that live this lifestyle are normally very receptive so someone wanting to do something considered different. Many folks were super surprised when I took off the line with the sound of the motor and how well I came out the gate.

Honestly right now it is just me. I a blazing new territory. I am the first 1.5 to ever enter. People I know that go for land speed records loved the fact that I am doing something different than just 1/4 mile, auto x, or circle track which is where you typically see cars with motors as small as ours is. The only other vehicles you see in land speed runs that are smaller displacements are one cylinder vintage motorbikes, etc.
My bud that raced his Motorcross bike, Jesse, was another new type of entry never before seen. The circuit does have 7 locations nationwide including Bonneville. Eventually I would like to actually take the car to run it at Bonneville at least once for the experience.

Now you have to beat your record.

OH IT WILL HAPPEN!

hahaha...seriously though. I need to clarify and correct. I am in the H class of the Production Supercharged division. This is for cars that are street legal and daily drivers. You must keep all factory equipment in the car to run in this division which makes it even more challenging. The only exception would be upgrades for safety when you get over the 135mph mark.
