Desktop PC nuts - Need advice
So I picked up the desktop PC that I am currently running a few years back from my best friend. I got it for a steal at 400 bucks so I really can't complain however I am at a crossroads and would like to see about upgrading my Mobo, CPU, RAM, and video card.....Yes, I know...most of the guts.
Anyway, I have kind of fallen off the spec wagon as I used to be a PC guru. I went and did a few quick comparisons to other new AMD products (been an AMD fan for years) and was a bit perplexed to see for example a side by side of my CPU (Phenom II X6 1090T) vs the latest offerings from AMD. Even though my CPU is 4.5 years old it still ranks higher . I mean, I know that it is a nasty CPU, but still! Anyway here is a report that I pulled to give a baseline of what I have cooking. I have been narrowing down the Video card upgrade to the SAPPHIRE DUAL-X 100365L Radeon R9 270 2GB. With this in mind that is roughly 170 bucks. I would like to stay in a total of only another 600 at most on the Mobo, CPU, and RAM. I would really like the Mobo to have at least 6 SATA III ports and the more USB 3.0 of course the better. I do use the machine for games like Diablo III, other 3rd person RPG and Shooters, Music content creation, mkv conversion, large file xfers internally, and across the LAN, graphic editting, etc. Thanks for any feedback! __________________________________________________ _____________ Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 6.1.7601 --------[ Summary ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer: Computer Type ACPI x64-based PC Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Professional OS Service Pack Service Pack 1 Internet Explorer 9.11.9600.17041 DirectX DirectX 11.0 Computer Name User Name Logon Domain Date / Time 2014-09-15 / 22:13 Motherboard: CPU Type HexaCore , 3400 MHz (16 x 213), AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor Motherboard Name MSI DKA790GX (Platinum) (MS-7550) (2 PCI, 2 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Video, Gigabit LAN) Motherboard Chipset AMD 790GX, AMD K10 System Memory 8192 MB (DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM) DIMM1: Kingston 2G-UDIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz) DIMM2: Kingston 2G-UDIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz) DIMM3: Kingston 2G-UDIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz) DIMM4: Kingston 2G-UDIMM 2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz) BIOS Type AMI (05/05/10) Communication Port Communications Port (COM1) Display: Video Adapter ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (1024 MB) Video Adapter ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series (1024 MB) 3D Accelerator ATI Radeon HD 4890 (RV790) Monitor Dell SE178WFP [17" LCD] (PK25685N1AFL) Monitor PnP-Monitor (Standard) [NoDB] (HVNB903543) Multimedia: Audio Adapter ATI Radeon HDMI @ ATI RV770/790 - High Definition Audio Controller Audio Adapter Realtek ALC888/1200 @ ATI SB750 - High Definition Audio Controller Storage: IDE Controller Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller IDE Controller Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller Disk Drive Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device Disk Drive Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device Disk Drive Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device Disk Drive Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device Disk Drive Generic STORAGE DEVICE USB Device (29 GB, USB) Disk Drive ST3750528AS ATA Device (750 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II) Disk Drive WDC WD10EAVS-32D7B1 ATA Device (931 GB, IDE) Optical Drive PLEXTOR DVDR PX-880SA ATA Device SMART Hard Disks Status OK Partitions: C: (NTFS) 197.3 GB (26.0 GB free) F: (NTFS) 99 MB (61 MB free) G: (NTFS) 931.4 GB (355.3 GB free) H: (NTFS) 302.2 GB (235.8 GB free) O: (NTFS) 199.1 GB (64.3 GB free) Total Size 1630.1 GB (681.6 GB free) Input: Keyboard HID Keyboard Device Keyboard Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Keyboard (Mouse and Keyboard Center) Mouse Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Mouse (Mouse and Keyboard Center) Network: Primary IP Address 10.10.10.80 Primary MAC Address 00-24-21-10-55-F6 Network Adapter Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller (10.10.10.80) Peripherals: Printer CutePDF Writer Printer EPSON WorkForce 645 Series - Network FAX Printer Fax Printer Send To OneNote 2010 Printer WorkForce 645(Network) FireWire Controller JMicron JMB380 PCI-E 1394a OHCI FireWire Controller and Memory Card Host Controller USB1 Controller ATI SB750 - OHCI USB Controller USB1 Controller ATI SB750 - OHCI USB Controller USB1 Controller ATI SB750 - OHCI USB Controller USB1 Controller ATI SB750 - OHCI USB Controller USB1 Controller ATI SB750 - OHCI USB Controller USB1 Controller VIA USB eXtensible Host Controller [1106-3432] [NoDB] USB2 Controller ATI SB750 - EHCI USB 2.0 Controller USB2 Controller ATI SB750 - EHCI USB 2.0 Controller USB Device Microsoft Hardware USB Keyboard USB Device Microsoft Hardware USB Mouse USB Device Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Detection Driver (USB) USB Device USB Input Device USB Device USB Input Device USB Device USB Mass Storage Device DMI: DMI BIOS Vendor American Megatrends Inc.
