Engine oil question

Hello, I have a Vitz from 2007 with 1.3 Engine and automatic transmission. I do not know if this is a problem or normal for the car.

Last March when I curved the oil light turned on. I checked with the stick and found that the oil was very low. I had taken the car for a service (which included an oil change) a couple of months before so I took the car to a mechanic because I thought it was leaking. The mechanic told me that these vars (Vitz 2007) were known to burn oil and he topped the oil again.

Now, August, after around some 5000KM the oil light turned on again when I curved. I checked the oil using the stick and found that again it was very low. I have now topped it again.

However I was wondering - is this really normal?

I will plan a visit to Toyota. However it would help to know what the problem might be so that I'll know what they are speaking about.

You either have a leak, which shouldn't be too hard to find, or you are burning that oil, which would indicate engine problems, most likely valve guides or piston rings. How many miles on the engine?

check your dipstick more often so curving won't be the indicator of low-on-oil

The car has 85,942 Km.

How can I find if it has a leak?
Is there any other indication to know if the problem is with the engine?

At that mileage I wouldn't think engine problems but it's still possible. Is the car performing right otherwise?

As for a leak do you see any oil an the ground after leaving the car parked overnight? Best to just get a flashlight and inspect the engine from top and bottom. You should be able to see evidence of a leak if one is present.
