Acceptable tire sizes

I bought some new rims at the beginning of the summer, now I want to put snow/ice tires on the remaining steelies. The original tire size was 185/60/15 but I found a blowout tire sale on Blizzak tires but they only come in 195/60/15. Would a 10mm difference cause any problems?

I was able to put 185/60/15 Potenzas on 15x6.5 rims without any issues.

you want a skinnier tire for snow traction.

it would physically work on your car, but remember they're also taller than stock.

Actually, snow traction is mostly dependant on the type of tire and not the size,

I have the exact same dilemma this year with the exact same tire sizes. How much of an issue is it to be taller than stock? Are there any warranty implications?

orly?

Go throw some 225 "snow tires" on and drive in 12 inches of snow in a yaris. Let me know how that works out for you

Are you "comparing apples and oranges"?

Given the exact same type of tires, one that is slightly wider will give less traction in snow? I don't thnk so.

Living in NY (for longer than I care to remenmber) I have found that the exact opposit to be true.

6.5" wide rims can cater up to 205 tyres if im nt wrong.
195 shd not be a problem to fit in.

So 195's would be safe even though the original steel rim was 5.5 inches? I'd think that 10mm wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Should work okay. The car may seem sluggish out of the whole due to taller final gearing. Highway mileage may improve slightly while city mileage could suffer.

Side question: Has anyone here had experience with winter tires? I've never personally used them before. The stock Potenza RE92s do okay in the snow, but I've had a few too many close calls to keep using them.
