Why do people want a new powerplant? The INZ-FE is a great little motor that has proven itself to be efficient and reliable.

The aparent lack of power is due to the lack-luster engine calibration that toyota has loaded into the ECM to fight anything that could be construed as "run-away-acceleration".

My 2001 Echo had a 1NZFE in it and it felt like it had 25% more power than the current Yaris. Dad's '07 Yaris was faster than my '10.

Even if toyota installed the next generation motor....it would be slow. They are scared of the lawyers.

I don't have much against the current engine. It's a great engine with great reliability but it lacks key improvements being shown by Hyundai and others, such as direct injection. The Accent has 138 HP and gets 40 MPG compared to only 106 HP and 36 MPG for the Yaris.

As far as the liability talk, you're not serious are you? First off, Toyota was cleared of any fault from the unintended acceleration fiasco. It's been proven that it was all driver error, as anyone with a brain knew from the start.

Aside from that, how could Toyota be afraid of a Yaris being "too fast". Huh? We're talking about the least powerful car in the Toyota lineup. A Prius has more power. The average Toyota/Lexus has around 250-300 HP. The Lexus LFA has 552 HP and is good for 202 MPH. Any liability there?

Fact is, Toyota answered the question saying a new engine and transmission at this point would have priced the Yaris beyond what they felt would be competitive. They chose to keep the price as low as possible as most buyers wont even know anything about the engine and transmission. The price is what they see.

2014 Yaris LE Sedan and SE Coupe!?!

Okay y'all. You know the drill. Toyota apparently retooled the robots for the 2012 Camry production line, so they could call the 2012 Camry "all new".

Why doesn't Toyota retool the robots for the 2012 Yaris sedan production line to bring us a 2014 Yaris sedan AND coupe?

Now what about the 2014 Yaris sedan? Some of us LOVE the idea of having a trunk, but don't want to be caught dead in a Corolla.

So here is my rendering of the 2014 Yaris LE Sedan (with parts retooled from the 2012 Yaris HB) and a 2014 Yaris SE Coupe for those who want a 2-door Yaris, but hate the hatchback design (kinda like a first generation Toyota ECHO 2-door).

What do you think? I think I am on to something here.

Interesting. Saw some renderings online that look a lot nicer than some cut-n-paste photoshop.

Toyota sells the Corolla Axio in a 1.3 and 1.5. There is no need for a Yaris Sedan it would seem from their point of view since the interior of the Sedan was similar to the Corolla and probably eroding Corolla sales. Not even making the Axio 1.8 anymore.

Although Theophilus Chin makes some nice renderings, it does not take into account that Toyota will probably use a less-steep windshield for the Yaris Sedan, and so the 2012 Yaris' front quarter windows will not be used in the Sedan version.

There probably won't be a new Yaris sedan. The JDM Belta just got phased out a few months ago, and the Corolla Axio is the same size and price.

The Vios is being replaced in some markets by the Etios, which is too cheap for US shores.

While some may like/need a sedan, I was quite pleased with the two-dor hatch model.

That new Vios looks pretty good except that it looks too propped up and tall, much like a Versa sedan. Very awkward stance that the previous Yaris sedan managed to avoid.
