Smile Consistent 40+ mpg

Just thought I would check in here and give you all a bit of a heads up. I'll be going on 1 year of ownership with my 2008 Yaris in November. I use my car for 90% commuting and put on average 1600+ miles a month on my car, and I just hit 50k

According to my scangauge and logs I'm averaging 42.5 mpg over the last year. Mostly doing 55 to 65 mph on the highway. Running 40 psi on all 4 tires and only mobile1 synthetic oil and filter seem to both be helping as well

My wife loves my car so much we traded in her minivan for a 09 Yaris as well! We have his and hers Yaris with matching license plates (corny I know but who cares

Not a single issue with both cars other than standard maintainence, and we actually SAVED money going with a new car vs a used minivan due to the mpg difference and fuel costs (even at 2.70 a gallon)

Just thought I'd report in on my happy mpg experiences with the Yaris =). We both couldn't be happier

I have just over 65K on my 08 hatchback and with the same changes (Scanguage, Mobile 1, and 40psi) I am getting very similar numbers.

Unfortunately my wife did not go for the 2010 Yaris, and chose the Kia Soul instead. Her commute is only half as far as mine, so I relented on the MPG argument.

Good luck with the 09.

I have been 40 mpg all summer, however, expect that to drop 2-3 mpg for on coming winter fuel blend and winter driving.

It's so easy to get great mileage in our Yarii that in the dead of winter, when I'm making runs to the ski area with several passengers and gear, spikes spiders on and creeping along in a huge line of traffic as we toddle up the mountain, I still get 42 MPG for the round trip.

Coming up... I will estimate a 2-3 MPG difference with the Winter fuel blend? Also, I will be migrating to Ethanol blend gas due to State Law that took effect in September (no more non-ethanol gas in PA). I'm looking at 2-3 MPG less for that? Combined would be 4-6 MPG drop from my Summer average of 49-51 MPG.

I will still keep in place the hypermiling techniques I use...

Cheers!

I Love my YARIS - (Click below to see Gaslog):

Most miles Tank: 538 tank/10.148 gal = 53.015 MPG / Most MPG: 54.95 MPG (ethanol) 425 tank/7.73 gal
