Accelerator Problem

Started the Yaris today. It turned over but when I press the gas pedal no response from the engine. Any help, please? Possible fuses? Is my computer fried?

TIA. :-)

In between the last time that you started the car successfully, and now, did you do anything to the car?

Which gear does the dash light indicator say you're in?

Make sure there is nothing stuck under the gas pedal like the floor mat or a small puppy.

He said the engine turned over but it wouldn't start. If the car was in a gear other than P the starter motor wouldn't even work.

Sounds like he means, car started but when he pushed the gas pedal, no rev from the engine. Atleast it sounds like he means that.

if anything the pedal needs to be checked...as the actual pedal internals may have failed.....(drive by wire)

Not the case with our Yaris. You can start it in N. I haven't tried other gears.

Sounds like a TPS-Throttle Position Sensor. Pretty common on drive by wire accelerators these days. If you had a scangauge, you could verify by seeing if your TPS reading changed when you step on it.

Generally its a whole pedal assemble replacement, not positive on the Yaris though.

I remember when i busted my mom's van in to R at 60 mph. It just stalled out, as I popped it back into N. I popped it back into D, and it started up again.

So technically, D works too. LOL.

In most AT cars, it can only be started when the transmission is disengaged, ie the car won't start surging forward the moment you start the engine. As I never owned an AT Yaris I'm not in the best position to say if N would start the car, perhaps it would because the transmission is still disengaged.

When an MT Yaris requires the clutch to be depressed to the floor to engage the starter motor, I would be surprised that you could start an AT Yaris in gear, or even neutral for that matter.

I guess I'll say one more time that we can start our Yaris in N like I did in post 12. I'm sure we don't have some sort of mutant Yaris and that other AT owners can do the same.
