HID full size ballast install?
I went to install an HID system in the Yaris, opened the hood, and thought, OhSh*t! where can I put these full sized ballast!?!
I found a great spot! Under the headlamp assembly. Install took 90 minutes and looks great(so far), I'll post night pics later. http://retro-solutions.net/product-l...pg1-cid86.html

Hmmm. Not a fan of plug-n-play kits but because of the ease of installation I can understand why they're so popular.
Judging from the cutoff pics, you may be blinding other drivers driving in the opposite direction but not realize it. A proper retrofit with a projector will definitely improve the cutoff and direction of the beam though it does require more labor which includes opening up the headlights. Here are two threads that may be helpful as well. Brian (sedan) PETERPOOP (liftback) |

I guess your not looking at the pic? the cut-off is very close to stock with a halogen bulb.
If I were blinding(on flat roads)oncoming traffic, I'd pull the system. I've seen more glare off of OEM HID equipped cars, than this system. I'm getting little to no stray light above the cut-off line. I would like a more defined line, but thats the price one pays for a retro solution. Of coarse a proper projector would be better, but this is good enough for now.

It's not necessarily the cutoff that's the problem. It's that the reflector bowls were designed for halogen bulbs, not HID bulbs, which emit light a different way. You may not see it, but glare may be coming from the headlights if seen head on. You'll know if you have that problem as people will either high beam you, or flip you off. I think people have made blockers that go on the bottom of the bulb to help limit the glare problem.

I believe the stock ones are painted flat black already from what I remember when I removed mine to install the projectors. Drive around at night for a while. I mean, it's the Bay Area, someone is bound to high beam you and/or flip you off. I know I got some when I ran plug-n-play HIDs.

But folks have been high beaming and flipping me off since I got my Yaris(day or night).

lol. Well then, I'm not sure how you would be able to tell unless you park the Yaris and drive another car coming from the opposite direction. I only get flipped off now for ignoring ricers wanting to race me (before it was the HIDs).

The kit I got was bi xenon when I drive in traffic at night I switch it to xenon not to pass off other drivers and when it's pretty clear road I switch back to hid mode although the cutoff is decent I can see a bit scattered light as observed by how brightly the freeway signs are lit up
