Angry 2012 Yaris Manual Trans Pressure Vent

I bought my yaris 4 days ago with 38k miles on it for 8500 bucks. Its the SE 4door. I noticed yesterday a small puddle of what feels and smells like gear lube underneath it and upon further inspection it looks as if its coming from the bottom of the trans housing where it meets clutch housing. I know these have a vent that relieves trans pressures that can clog. Ive found the vent. How and should I remove it to clean it? Or does anyone have any other ideas what could be causing my leak? The car was bought in july 2012 so I think if manufacturer warranty transfers it should be under warranty until july 2017. Right?? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm fairly mechanically savvy having always owned old cars and trucks so getting my hands dirty isn't an issue for me.

Thanks,
Kellen

Ive heard also the input shaft tolerances have been bad in some cases causing oil to leak past the seal. However when i loosened the fill plug on the trans i heard it hiss. This is why I'm asking about the vent. Could the vent be the cause of my troubles or is it likely deeper? Maybe the excessive pressure has compromised a seal? New to the tiny engine/transaxle world. My experience lies with older American model casr/trucks. This is a car for my wife as we are expecting our first baby to be born next spring. Thanks again

If I could figure out how to get this darn vent out I'm thinking I could solve my problem. I opened it today after a couple miles of driving and it had pressure in it again. I did top of the trans with Valvoline 75-90 synthetic APL gl-5. It was almost a quart low! I found where I believe the leak is coming from. Looks like passenger side axle seal at the trans. I would think its the pressurized trans causing it to blow past the seal. I have a date with a Toyota dealer next Tuesday but id like to try and get the vent out to clean it before then. Might save me an hour trip to dealer. ANYONE have experience getting this thing out?

UPDATE

I had the axle seal replaced under warranty at my local Toyota dealer. It seemed fine, no leaks for a couple of days. Then it reappeared. Contacting Toyota again on Monday to see WTF is going on. Ive heard those trans/axle vents can clogged or become defective and not let the diff gasses escape causing it to leak past the axle seals pushing trans oil with it.

I have no experience with the pressure buildup you are having.

Since it's under warranty I would let Toyota deal with it until they fix it.

Good luck and. Let us know what happens!

Sounds like you have the right idea. Axles seals are meant for zero pressure. It only take a few PSI for them to blow past. If you are hearing a hiss when opening the fill plug there is way too much pressure. Usually with vents you just twist the cap and it clears the mud out. You can also just force the metal cap off and use a wire to clear out the hole. Then adjust the cap so that it clips back on. If you have warranty, let them poke at it though. You'd hate for them to use your poking as an excuse to not warranty.

My vent was clogged when I got my car. I cleared it a couple times and it's been fine since.

Yaris manual transmission vent clog pressure axle seal leak Mind of Toyota

Add this to list of things Toyota seemed to know how to do in 1990, then forgot.

neat! does it just pop off, or are tools involved?

it's not really intended to come apart. Start by just giving it a wiggle/twist and see if it clears itself. If it still is plugged you have to gently pry it off. You will likely have to adjust the cap a little bit to make sure it stays on again when you push it back on.

I really should check mine again soon. It's been a while.
