1.33 DUAL VVT-I 2012 Toyota Yaris Vibrating at idle

Can someone please check if you have the same problem as me? At idle (most often when the engine is warm), there is vibration that can be felt through the steering wheel and the drivers seat. This usually starts after a few seconds of idling at a stop light.Toyota tech could not find anything out of the ordinary.

I do not recall this idle vibration being present in the first 9000km of driving. It seems to me that the idle was higher during that period and has since decreased to around 600 - 700rpm. Perhaps the idle is too low ? Can someone has any idea?

if the idle is too low, it may be due to a dirty intake manifold or sensor/s. Cleaning may be needed as this can cause low idling and in turn vibrations.

**just based it on:
1) it wasnt present before
2) idle is lower compared to before

Dear Jcboy,

Thank you so much for your answer but a irregularity in working fro intake manifold or sensor shouldn't be appeared as a code error at electronically diagnose? Dealer give me a written paper as engine is working as normal...but vibration at idle are still there

I have no idea how to clean this parts, d you have any topics for description ?

Thank you so much,

Cosmin

Have similar in my 2012 . Started 3 mths ago (11k km) . Was H frequency very annoying vibrations.
Complained at 3th service . Dealer cleaned sensors but did not find cause.
After the H frequency vibration decreased to low frequency what is less annoying but exists.
After ticking/tapping at idle (what agree to dealer is a normal noise ) is the next Toyota surprise for a new car.
What next????

so 1nr-fe tapping at idle is not only our local issue.... I had also 've been to dealer with this tapping sound when the engine is warmed up. toyota representative found it just regular engine VVT-i system sound. i wonder why it happens only on warmed up engine though (when the oil viscosity is low). btw most of the cars with that engine I've heard - have this sound...

I got 1.3 Yaris (Australia) with 2NZ-FE engine. It is true that taping/clicking is not a local issue but I found in many entries (forums, You Tube etc) . Many try to rectify above problems at service (I try twice)-but the dealers aptitude is "it is normal sound"...injector, solenoid etc... . Good explanations for kids but not for average user with some technical background. My grandson's new Mazda2 is beautiful quiet at not a single problem.
I think that it is a valve gear faults (some user finally won at after replacements the problem do not exist any more.)
Currently... the annoying vibration at idle .. New problem -but some people suspect that is connected with valves problem.
I do not know but I bought new Yaris as my last car in life (over 70) but after 10 k km I start deeply to regret this.

Dear Andy,

At least your local dealer had cleaned the sensors in Romania they just put the computer on the car make a diagnose and that was all.. The engine is working as normal according to the computer but in real life is vibrating..... :). I discover if I turn on the lights the idle rpm increase and the vibration disappear. For the moment even if I changed fuel as dealer had said no improvement car has a little vibration. Of course if something goes wrong with my car I'll going to park direct intro Dealer Director office this car. Cheers. Any other people how's facing this "issue"?

Just added a movie on utube with the engine sound that it's normal since I saw much more yaris 1.33 and 1.3 L with the same sound. For me what is not clear why when I am turn on the lights rpm at idle grow up and the vibration disappear. Does any one know if the idle speed can be adjust by dealer ? thank you

Thank Cosmin for video.
My Yaris got similar noises. In my I still consider valve gear fault - but in this stage I am powerless.
I read some technical articles about Yaris. One is stated that designer made idle mixture lean to save petrol -but as trade is some vibration.

even if I changed oil filters and so on ..... engine is still vibrating ... at idle .....I guess due to low RPM ..... I really regret that I didn't get and VW Polo at this stage .... my 2012 new car is shaking as my last Daewoo never do it ....... :( I am not happy with Toyota anymore :( Anyone can share the same experience?

Probable vibration is an effect of too low RPM . My start top vibrate at app 600RPM what is probable harmonics (resonanse). Low RPM leads to low petrol usage and glory to Toyota Comfort is probable not very important.
Several trials in forums as put to neutral, lights on also hand brake always lead to RPM increases and vibration stop. I do not know how is to be possible to increase RPM at idle without re-programs computer by Toyota. At present is very annoying.

This noise is typical to the toyota N series i think. Mine does exactly the same noise. I don't see why you would want to have a higher IDLE speed thought.. waste gas.

dunno man.. what made you choose a Yaris over a mazda 2 anyways? I've never had issues with the vibrations while in traffic to the point it becomes annoying.

Hi,
I am not complain about the noise ....my worry is the this vibration ....I guess du e to low RPM at idle...... If I turn on the light the RPM at idle is growing up and vibration goes away...... even if Toyota consider this normal for me it doesn't seams to be.

well, of course that low of an idle will cause a bit of vibration, but you don't want your car to be always idling at 1000rpm or such.

Turning your lights on means more load on the alternator.. it's normal the car raises the idle speed a little. Turning on the AC will get you to about 800rpm on a fully warm engine. That's because it needs the extra power/speed to get things moving.
