Pinkish/white stuff under the hood?

Hello all.

I was putting windshield washer fluid in my Yaris today and notice some type of pinkish/white substance on the underside of the hood. It wasn't there a couple of months ago… I looked around the engine and I couldn't see any leaks or pinkish substance anywhere, just on the underside of the hood. Sorry for the vague description, I'm not sure how else to explain it, but I can post pictures tomorrow.

Some people have posted pics of a pink stripe on the underside of the hood, arising from water pump gone bad.

That's exactly what I see on the underside of the hood. My Yaris only has 13.5k miles.

I haven't notice any changes in performance or sound from engine and there is no check engine light. It's a very thin pink line, so I guess it must have happen just recently… How long does it take to have a water pump fix/replaced?

So long as the red engine overheat light doesn't come on, its no worries. If it comes on, turn it off within seconds, not minutes, even if on the highway. I drove without coolant for just half a mile, and it got really hot.

Mine happened once, and has not happened again. It is not necessarily a busted pump, but maybe an intentional bleed by the pump because of heat/pressure?

Either way, mine is fine even after having the pink streak.

According to krusty, it's normal. No worries, guys.

Now I'm getting an odd noise somewhere in the engine compartment and now there is more pink stuff splattered all over the underside (not just a thin pink line like last time) of the hood and in some parts of the engine. When I took to the dealership a week ago they said it’s normal and they wiped off the pink strike, but I honestly think there is something wrong now. I decided to schedule an appointment with a different dealership in another town.
