cabin air filter

I removed the glove compartment on my Yaris and noticed there was a filter housing. Book says nothing about it. I went to local Advance Auto Parts store. Obviously, there was no listing for Yaris in their book but I took measurements and picked the one for ca. 12 bucks. Popped right in. Eeehaaa!

What filter did you replace it with. Do you have a stock number for it?

as i said there was no filter in the housing - stock # = 12208 by Purolator and it costs $ 12.28 plus tax in my Adv. Auto Parts. Also - on the other note - did anyone think about mounting an aftermarket tacho inside that swinging storage compartment next to driver's left knee ? ( the one you need to pull in order to get to under- the -dash fuse/relay box ? I thought, if i mount it over there, i will simply open that little storage bin while driving, so nobody would break into my yaris and steal it while the car is parked

No filter comes in it when you buy it, I dont know why but it dosent, I went to the Dealership and thay had no idea what filter I was talking about. I told him that I had seen the Part number on a forum and I looked it up and gave it to him. THey had them in stock, the bad thing is they cost about $20 bucks.

#87139-52020 Is possibly the US part number. If I can find data base I will affirm.

No filter also here in Greece! I have exchanged many e-mails with Toyota Greece, Toyota Japan and Toyota Europe!

The car comes without filter!

When I asked Τoyota Hellas if the passengers' health is affected by the lack of the filter, they officialy replied that they don't have any evidence about that...

They sell a product which is potencialy dangerous...

I was very disapointed...

just push it!

if its the same as the hatch then open then push it on both side from the outside. hold it at the same time push till it comes off the plastic pin... be carefull you might break the pin..you can do it one at a time as well if you want.. takes 15 seconds to take that off..no sweat!

i opened my a/c filter compartment to copy the exact MODEL # from the Purolator filter i use : it is C38188------------as i wrote it is basically "oem fit" but i trimmed ca. 1/16 of an inch of the plastic lip ( front and back, i.e. along the "short side") to prevent buckling when the door with two pins is closed. then i applied black electric tape to the front mounting to enhance air tightness and to limit the filter's movement. i do not recommend " the poor man diy replacements" as those filtering elements have much bigger pores - the one i installed is one-directional , one micron element and it was chemically treated with antibacterial/antifungal agent.....
even if it costs $ 12 and i change it monthly, the expense will be negligible in comparison with current ( let alone future) gas prices, and the health benefit is substantial.

I cant say for sure why the yaris doesn't have one but I can tell you that on the Tc they had them but they actually had a cooling problem with them in there, so Toyota opted to just take them out. No official word from Toyota that I've heard but this could be the same with our Yarii
