lol.

The skuzz does a lot of city driving, 80/20.

I'm only at 500mi so I haven't broken the engine in yet. AND I have an A/T that sucks up fuel. Been low revving too, never over 4k rpm. We'll see. Seems like everyone is suggesting that I change my oil to synthetic after about 1200-1500mi instead of the factory 5000mi.

The thing is, I have that Toyota Care program where I get free maintenance for 2yrs or 25k mi. So, if I change to synthetic at 1200-1500mi, would I void this program?

i do more highway driving but i noticed i've been kinda hitting hard like yesterday i went from 30 mpg to 28 mpg because on the highway i'm very aggressive 4000 to 5000 to 6000 rpms because chicago drivers are nuts. for me i feel like with my a/t when i drive city limits 25-45 speed limits and using cruise control i save more gas. and ur question to use a different oil is a good question. I got the extended warranty so i got free oil changes for the next 6 years. I'm just gonna change the oil every 5000 miles like they say we should.

I am on my second synthetic oil change with over 10000 miles on it and at the last fill up I got a calculated 44.4 MPG, awesome.

My overall average is 43.6 MPG, and was telling my Toyota service guy and he said that is great and what the new Prius owners are getting.

It wont void the program. I had free oil change and inspection and tire rotation i received from Hayward Toyota. I switched to Fremont Toyota and started bringing in ENEOS full synthetic oil to them, just need to tell them to use this oil and you are set.

I share similar mileage, and it is disappointing.

I just passed 1,000 miles today, and will wait until 1,500 to change the oil and filter to pure synthetic. I honestly think the break-in oil is very thick, and wearing on what would otherwise be (as everyone else seems to be getting or nearly getting 40mpg highway) getting great mileage.

I think with a thinner oil in there after break-in, we will be in a better place, MPG-wise.

New 2012 Yaris SE Manual

I have just 860 miles on my new Yaris. On the highway at steady 70-75 mph (no AC) with cruise, I am getting 36-37MPG. When I get off the hwy in semi-rural Massachusetts and travel in the 30-50 mph range in 4th or 5th, mileage increase to 38-40mpg. Engine is already starting to "feel" freer and drivability has improved (or at least my driving!). I average 37.6mpg on my first full tank and 37.4 on my second.

Doug

This was using non-oxygenated fuel, as I live in the Colorado front range, but am in a county that does not require oxygenated fuel (extra ethanol).
Oxygenated fuel in use in the Denver metro area from October 15 to March 15 gives you about 10% poorer mileagethis is based on my experience on my 2000 Eldorado. .
Last July I drove through Colorado and got some fantastic mileage...in my new Sienna minivan. The car is rated at 24 MPG and I was getting 29 MPG. I thought it has something to so with the hills and being able to coast down massive hills and take advantage of DFCO. But maybe it was the fuel, or a combination of both.
