Question Starting Yaris

Hey I was just wondering how long you guys hold the key to the START position? Hold it till starts? Or just crank it over to start and let it go and it should start? 2007 Yaris Sedan 😉

Turn key full forward and immediately release. No need to hold key in forward position.

Yeah i know what you mean lol. Obviously I'm not gonna hold it in start position after it has already started. I was just wondering if you hold it till it starts but I just brought it to start and immediately released and it started without holding it

Toyota Yaris turn key and release starter hold

Why "bad for engine" to hold key on start until it fires, then release...like every other car I've ever driven. Obviously not a bad Yaris feature, unless the magic ever causes any sort of malfunction...then it wasn't worth it.

I drove the car some time before realizing it even had this turn-and-release trick. First thought was a sticking solenoid /"Bendix" mechanism...which can be a big problem.

I don't think you mean to say "...just bring it over till it starts up."

(The reason for this feature is to prevent any reason to keep turning the key AFTER the engine has started...maybe a real problem now w/ very quiet engines and drivers used to auto-start hybrids, plug-ins and electric cars.)
