Apparently the closure of two threads about Yaris Max Speeds has taught me a couple of facts...

1. A lot of posters here cannot read. I asked for opinions from posters where excessive speeds were legal, not from speed freaks who enjoy flirting with death. I made that clear to demarcate between my thread and first thread.

2. Our Moderators are too liberal with the thread lock and too conservative with making distinctions between illegality where they're sitting and around the rest of the world.

I'm especially concerned with Canadian moderators and posters. Do you all think that the rest of the world's laws are similar to Canadian law? Ain't so.

Well on my thread, I forgot to mention it was 2am on an open highway with no cars in sight.

Never went to look at them. Did not know that they existed. The Yaris is an economy car - who would take an "Eco-Box" on a race track?

There are places in the world were driving fast on public roads is completely legal.

It's ironic - I won't go much above the speed limit because of deer, elderly drivers and self indulgent idiots who imagine that their SUV "protects them" and thus feel free to be reckless. Yet here I am taking the Management to task because they lock threads about high speed driving in places where it's legal.

You'd think that such threads are considered an "enticement to speed". The enticement to speed comes from many sources aside Yarisworld.

Pavel, police officers are some of the worst drivers. Didn't you recall me talking about passing some numbnut because he was stopped in the middle of the road by a PA State Trooper doing a "three point turn" dead in the center of a two lane highway? The dude stopped half a mile away from the Statie, it was a passing lane, so I just went around them and went on my way. The dude had been horsing around with going fast and then slow, and wouldn't let me pass him earlier, so it was turnabout is fair play.

That is not the first time I've seen such stupidity from a police officer. A lot of police speed, run stop signs (with and without lights), and will even park alongside of the roads with the rear end of the car out in oncoming traffic. I've nearly been "pushed" into some of them by people in the left hand lane aside me.

The only "weight" that a Police Officer's opinion carries is in Court. Aside that as a rule I don't take their skills very highly, especially the younger ones.

Some of the older Police though have extremely good skills.... they do get better with experience.

I think that our rules here are a bit too tight... there are places on Earth where there are no speed limits. There is a big difference between a "Non-Conformist" and doing what needs to be done.

I routinely "drive right" and will not pass someone without checking my rear view mirror as far out as I can see. If someone is coming up behind me I will get out of their way. I am constantly checking my mirrors and looking around me.

People use Garden Tractors at Tractor Pulls and air rifles at long distance shooting competitions too. From my perspective an Econobox ain't the tool for such things as speed competition.

I sure don't want anyone to pull over. Keep on moving is my feeling about it. Last Friday I tried get around a Tri-Axle dump truck. They wouldn't yield but did ramp up the speed. They reached a fair velocity so I drifted back and rode with them. On Tuesday some dude in a Minivan wouldn't let me pass him, then I passed him, then after we passed through a known speed trap he passed me by coming up behind me until I yielded. He did a beautiful job of hauling ass so I drifted back and rode with him.

I don't have to be the top dog, provided that I get where I'm going in a jiffy. Not recklessly but briskly.

I've had people "slow down". My usual response is to back off, bide my time, pass and wave to them. Except one idiot in a Nissan who I no longer see, who enjoyed holding everyone back. He'd also "speed up" in passing zones to prevent any passing, then he'd slow up once the double yellow lines came back. I watched him do it repeatedly over a few months to different people including myself. I changed shifts and don't see him any more. Good riddance!

Gene, you could save us a few threads like this one by using the search function and just sticking to the rules. At one point, we were liberal enough to have questions like this answered publicly. They're still there. We are the way we are now for a good reason. If you don't understand please PM me and I would be happy to explain it. Thanks!

Your "perspective" about the Yaris is based on zero racing experience, I am guessing. I think you just admitted you didn't know a track/racing forum existed on here? You're not basing your opinion on real knowledge, Gene -- and you know you're doing that, because you're a smart person. What are you basing your opinion on? The cost of the car? The horsepower of the car? That you think it was designed for a single purpose? (if that's it, trying googling "Vitz Cup", a dedicated professional race series for the car and gosh, heaven forbid anyone should race a Honda Civic).

If you were willing to listen to the dozen of us that say (from real experience) the Yaris is competitive at the track, you might reconsider your position. Will you?
