Have you used Dollar General motor oil in your Yaris?

I haven't but for 1 it's a 10 weight oil and 2, you can have Supertech - a proven oil - for similar pricing. It is ILSAC GF-5, so it's probably perfectly fine.

Didn't Dollar General get caught selling non-rated non-detergent oil, aka dangerous garbage, just last year or so? I would be weary of them.
And yes Supertech is proven good quality oil. |

I believe that PQIA exposed at least one of those discount dollar store-type entities for having uncertified, potentially dangerous oil, on their shelves. I think a few of those products even had a fake API type label on their bottles. Probably deep fryer oil bottled up, lol. Pretty sure at least one of the oils was a base crude oil with no additives at all. Again, as cheaply as Walmart sells great oil for, why would one take the risk?

Amazon oil is probably more trustworthy than dollar general.

I'd bet my life on it. It's probably SuperTech (Warren, WPP) rebottled. It's still $5.00 more than off-the-shelf SuperTech. I'm not a big proponent of Walmart but when it comes to buying oil, it's a no-brainer. I don't know how places like Autozone, NAPA, O'Reillys etc sell a bottle of oil as they can't come close to Walmart pricing. Must be customer loyality, or something.

Funny you mention Autozone, ect. I just got back from there and while I always get all my oil at Walmart, I took a peek at Autozone's oil prices. Holy smokes they want a lot for their oil. I can see a couple of bucks extra, but it's easily 30% more.
I think they only sell oil to people that can't be bothered to look up what kind of filters their car takes. |

We do have similar cheap oils here as well, brands that nobody heard of. The question is - why should I buy 4 quarts of noname oil for 12 USD when I can buy proven quality brand for 20 USD? The oil is the most important thing for the engine, is it really worth the risk and worth saving 8 USD?
