Removing Power Steering/Replacing PS Rack with Manual Rack

Long story short I cracked/broke my steering rack. They have 'manual' racks advertised and im assuming that means no power steering. I'm wondering what needs to be done in order to properly remove the power steering system so i can use the manual rack.

Thanks

Heres a pic:

All 06+ Yaris have Electronic Power Steering. The electric motor is located up on the column, so that might be why so many eBay sellers list the rack as being "manual".

For conversion to manual, you can simply pull the EPS fuse, but the electric motor will offer some additional resistance to turning. You could probably pull the electric motor off of the steering column to alleviate that.

For replacing the rack, check out the power steering section of the service manual:

Cool, thanks for the info. So if I get one of these racks it will still have electronic power steering, correct?

lol I was so sad. I was gonna get the entire rack and tie rods (which I also need replaced) for free. $100 off ebay for rack and pinion + tie rods isnt that bad. I actually had been going up to GMR 4 times a week for 2-3 months with my rack like this. Also my hub/wheel bearing was completely destroyed and cracked too which I was running like that for a while too. It was louder than my engine. I replaced the bearing and hub a month ago and its going out again so I'm pretty sure my knuckle is bust too.

I wonder how bad mine is. I've been to the track and many auto-x. But I never do regular checks.

Mmm, not something I like to brag about, but I've learned from my mistakes so I shall share..

Left turn, under steer, right wheel slammed into wall, rear flew up in the air. Replaced the lca and strut, but the + chamber was still present in right wheel. Assuming/most likely frame damage :). Also Im sure that the rack and pinion had cracked from the crash and finally broke off completely about 2-3 months ago. This accident happened almost a year ago.

Pics of the wheel

Pic of hub/wheel bearing

Pic of wheel, bad angle, but theres a few degress of positive chamber

Dude, that wall came out of no where and moved in front of my car! Yeah i have too much fun and still doing so with my cracked rack :). My side skirt on that side got super scratched up and some tiny unnoticeable scratches on the rear door. My friend did the same exact thing at the same turn in his civic ef. He had some nice volks on, his wheel literally disentigrated. :)
