Widest tires for 15x6.5?

Really looking into getting some Konig Lightspeed wheels....offset is 38, size is 15x6.5

What's the widest tires I dare stick on those wheels to keep from rubbing at all? Keep in mind I'm going to do the TRD springs & shocks probably next summer.

Also, what would my 185/60/15 current tires look like on that setup? Would the 185s be too narrow? My tires still have lots of tread.

How was this not covered sufficiently in your other thread?

(the one you got frustrated in and asked that it be closed)

because I was asking about 16x7s, not 15x6.5. I've decided to go with 15s to save weight.

As I recall, you were asking about both 15's and 16's. The answer doesn't change, regardless.

I'm waiting for the widest on 15 x 5.5 thread. Then, I have a feeling widest 14 inch rims will have a couple of new threads, just for sh!ts & giggles.

no I had settled on 16x7 in the other thread, now I've decided on a different rim size.

please don't mistake this as sarcasm, I'm genuinely interested, how does the answer not change?

wouldn't a different rim size require a completely different tire size? i remember the link from the other thread so I'm cool with figuring out what tire size to use to achieve a similar diameter to factory (so as not to throw off the speedo), but it's the widths I know nothing about. I understand I will need xxx/60/R15 to maintain the same diameter.

I do know that my current 185s will fit 15x6.5 wheels, but they will be a tad stretched, what I don't know is what width I would be able to go up to without rubbing (especially once lowered on TRD suspension).

Correct. So 205/60/15.

Done.

cool, now if only I understood HOW you know that. is it from personal experience or is there some magic formula I don't know about? like I said I get the whole outer diameter thing, but how do you know about widths without trial and error?

thanks for the education!

You don't want more than 50mm wider tire than rim, +/-.

6.5" is about 160mm....so Max width would be 205 or 215(((((

ah ok, makes sense. just really, REALLY didn't want to buy a combo and then have it rub when I do the TRD suspension. zero is the only acceptable amount of rub to me, some setups might look nice, but it's just not worth it.

Remember to support your YW vendor (me) when comparing prices for wheels and/or tires.

Thanks a lot barber -- not.

I did the TRD suspension, lowering springs, shocks and sway bar first with 15x6.5 rims initially running the GY 185/60 15 stock rubber and performance was great. I just switched out rubber running 205/55 15's and no problems rubbing and much improved looks and handling. I just posted new tire and wheel pix on "post pictures of your aftermarket wheels and tires here" thread if you care to see this set up. One of the four pix you can see the stock Goodyear LS 185's on 15x6.5 rims.
