CB radio

I've never had a CB radio. What should I get?

Why do you want one? I have one in the Jeep for out on the trails, but the range is only 1-2 miles at best...

pm N2Scouting. he uses one in his yaris and told me all about it at the dayton meet. really cool stuff! apparently, truckers use a different frequency than the amateur radio folks. also, i think you have to have a license and pass a test first too.

he only needs to do testing/licensing if he is doing ham/shortwave. no license needed for cb operation, AFAIK, few in my family use them on trips.

so far, entertaining but not so helpful! LOL

I bought a used police cruiser, and I want to put a CB radio in it. So what I'm looking for is more brand and model advice than anything. I'll PM n2scouting -- any ideas?

Well ignore these ppl, you probably want a 2m ham radio u can use it off spec and get a LOT more distance. If you have questions let me know I am a licensed radio operator.

No, but there are bands that require NO license and give you a LOT MORE RANGE with a LOT LESS power.... just takes a little education on the matter. If you want to take a HAM test its $10.. and I can point you to some practice test.

KSM3338(my old call sign) calling Garm I've good luck with both Uniden model PC78XL as well as Cobras C29 LTD BC . The biggest thing to remember is having the right CB antenna. There are a number of online sources out there Garm.

W5IDI, my current call... and I would stick with Cobra if I was going purchase a new one. Then you need to make sure you tune it good, b/c the range on a cb is horrible to begin with if it is legal... A GMRS radio however can go quite a good ways and do it VERY cheaply.
