Canada Toyota genuine motor oil viscosity application chart : 0w-20 approved for ...

Yaris from 2006 > 2012 . Got confirmation from Toyota of Canada that this chart is authentic . Here's the chart , http://pdfcast.org/pdf/toyota-oil-recommendation . So why would the 0w-20 be fine in Canada and not the States ? Some regions here have very similar climate as Canada . The email says the 0w-20 and 5w-20 are safe for the 1.5 ltr. , but the use of any other weight than the 5w-30 should be discussed with a dealer ( service center ) . Toyota doesn't make it easy when it comes to oils . The 2012 Prius "C" is stated 0w-20 and that is very close relative of the Yaris 1.5 .

The USA is more litigious in the US than Canada. At this point Toyota NA is letting the lawyers make all the calls for the US.

That will become a loaded question pretty quickly. IMHO perform a search and read what others have said too many times to to count. I use only AMSOIL products in my vehicles as of last year and have no complaints. The exception to this is that I used their motor oil in my previous engine for a little over 40k and the inside of my motor looks super clean as I have dismantled it.

I should follow your advice, and you used AMSOIL products on Yaris as well, I assume ? Any other synthetic motor oil, recommendations ?

Toyota synthetic oils are good quality . Usually MOBIL 1 with different additives specified by Toyota . Here's an example , but a conventional oils . These are virgin oil analysises of Toyota 5w-30 (SN) http://www.pqiamerica.com/Janaury%20...lts/toyota.htm and Mobil Super 5000 5w-30 (SN) http://www.pqiamerica.com/ExxonMobilSuper5000.htm . You'll see some resemblance . The additive pack may be different ( better? ) than those for the U.S..

FWIW Toyota 0W20 shows decent UOA's on http://www.bobistheoilguy.com.

Most oils do, really. Unless you're doing long oil change intervals, or your engine has a known issue (i.e. PCV systems on some cars are terrible, small oil passages near exhaust etc) or it's direct injected, or direct injected and turbocharged, most of the major brand oils do quite well, yes even conventional.
